Stereo install

I was worried about my stereo getting stolen again so I tried to camoflauge my stereo. Thiw will work for anyone with a 5th gen Civic, and their old stereo.

My stereo installed:

The stereo off:

Back of new face:

New Face half on:

Old face on there:

The face of the old stereo comes off really easily. All of the buttons stay in place. The only ones you have to glue on or make stay in are the volume button, and the fade/balance and treble/bass buttons. Also run a few pieces of electrical tape around the face so it fits snugly in the opening.

This should work for any stereo with the faceplate off.

Re:Stereo install

do you have an alarm? they're not that difficult to install and can be had for $50. also, if you remove the buttons from the stock stereo face plate, it'll look shity
and unattractive. that's a good idea though. i still have my stock stereo and the vafc is mounted in the console bottom hole and i cover it with a black rag to make it look like there's nothing there.

Nice, so when you leave you just swap the two? Not a bad idea at all man, not at all :D

Re:Stereo install

That is pretty ------- good, but at this point I'd jack even your stock Honda stereo. I'm so sick of listening to every bump, rattle, and fart my Civic lets out going down the road. I grit my teeth hoping it doesn't blow every time I drive anywhere...

I have an alarm, but I still don't want the car broken into or fucked with. It is just another deterant.

I just keep the cover plate in the glove box with the faceplate case.

Thats awesome! Mine was just jacked :( I should invest in your way

Re:Stereo install

It wasn't much of an investment. It was actually nice to get rid of the old stock stereo.

Re:Stereo install

that brings back memories of stereo installs back in the mid 90's. everyone was all about stealth systems. i remember seeing a car where the guy took his stock faceplate and modded it to work the aftermarket deck that was behind it. motorized the stock panel or something so he could load his cd's.

sorry, for the random memory...anyway, looks good, definitely just another deterrent to prevent breakins.

The modding of the old plate to make it work with the new stuff is a little far. I just did this cuz it was free.

Re:Stereo install

I've been meaning to do that for a long time, I just just don't have a stock radio to ruin. maybe I'll use an old Rampage face...

Re:Stereo install

Just pick something shitty. You can probably get a stock stereo pretty easy, you could even steal one. If it already has a fake face, then you are set.

hmm nice idea....I still got my stock deck too

Re:Stereo install

damn that is one kick ass idea... I like that. I have a nice little head unit in my car, I don't even remove the faceplate... it's an all black screen and looks good there :) Plus I hate the look without the face.

I really like your idea, I like how the radio is sunk in, mine pops out, gotten lazy, I figure out how to rig it later. :P

Re:Stereo install

I am guessing that you have a sony xplod or kameleon deck.

AgentMurdoc 11-22-2004 03:21 AM

Re:Stereo install

Yeah something like that I have the Panasonic 'ghost' touch screen deck... I love it... no buttons. 8)

Re:Stereo install

ooooooooh

no buttons

I had my xplod deck stolen. I always just left the face on b/c it was flat and black and looked like a stereo than without the face on. That didn't last long.

Re:Stereo install

Yea Murdoc I got the same deck, that ---- rocks! I was looking at the decks on display and I was like whaaaa no buttons? Then I touched it and was like SOLD! Then I found out it plays mp3s and is Sirius-ready. It's such a simple no nonsense deck with all the features.

Re:Stereo install

crazy91- Yeah no buttons, it rocks! ;D I was gonna get the sony xplod one, but then a while back a female I knew got it before me, and you know how it is, can't be gettin' something after the bitches already got it, so I didn't buy anything, til I ran across this, I snagged it quick!

jago- yay, yay! This is a hot head unit. I saw it at an audio shop and almost bought it right there and then, for the 400 price tag, but I knew I could get a better deal and I did 8). But you got the newer one, I got the older one, but I don't need none of that sirrus stuff anyways, like I don't have enough bills :P
