Starter kill alarm damaging starter?

Okay so recently my rex isn't starting up right away. I've had this problem in the past with my other rex, and it turn out to be the the starter. Some where I heard of car alarm starter kill damaging the the starter, but nothig ever solid. So does anybody have some imput on this?

I've check the usual suspects all ready:
master relay= good
battery= good
grounds= good
anything else?

Could be the infamous Master relay... The exact symptoms you describe... Good news is its 30$ at the local parts store (60$ from Honda) and will take about 5-10mins to fix.

I also had a wiring problem once with my starter kill...Seems the Car Toys installation monkey ran out of connectors and proper gauge wire while doing my alarm install. All the wires were twisted together and wrapped in electrical tape ??? The ground wire that was tapped from the ignition to the alarm kill was about 1/2 the gauge size of the standard heavy gauge starter ground :P

After checking it all out, the ground wire had come unraveled and wasnt grounding the ignition switch properly, causing it to start sporadically.

I all ready check the master relay, its good. More than likely I'll just buy a new starter, I just wanted to know if anybody else had ever herd of this. I intalled the car alarm my self, and its not a cheap one either.

Anybody got a D16 starter they want to sell, if I cant find one at a local junkyard, hollah at me.

Well, as an installer, I've never heard of this problem. The way a starter kill relay works is that it is invisible to the system unless the alarm is actually triggered, then the relay activates, causing an open in the starter wire. It does not provide any voltage to the starting system, so basically there is no way to harm the starter. The only thing that could go wrong is that the alarm is faulting and opening the starter-kill relay. What brand alarm is it? I know some of the brands floating around out there are crap and tend to have faults like this. If its a DEI (Clifford, Viper, Avital, etc...) or Audiovox then it should be good.

I have noticed this is a common thing. My old Civic and my new one both had alarms installed prior to me owning them. They just strip a part of the starter/ignition wire and wrap a teeny tiny wire around it and tape over it. That's so ------- cheesy. I hate seeing ---- like that. I would never take my car to a shop for anything, let alone something electrical. There are far too many hacks out there. I guess when you offer a $1 install you can't promise it's going to be quality. :-\

When I install, I use lineman taps. I strip some wire back, poke a hole through the wire strands and thread the other wire through it and wrap it around it, then a drop of solder and badda-bing! You have a worry free tap. Never use those shity 3M taps that cut into the wire, they suck.
