started the ball rolling on my turbo IH build (now with fluxcore log manifold)
with some flange love. waiting for more $ to start the manifolds, i'm undecided whether or not to go with sch10 weld ells, black iron fittings, or regular exhaust mandrel bends for the turbo manis. more than likely i will go with the black iron fittings O0
going to run 2 s4 rx7 hitachi turbos, i got one flange cut, i'll work on the other one tomorrow. not using the split scroll, if i can't spool these turbos with 3200cc's and a carb dumping insane amounts of fuel, i'll go for one single horse sized holset or some diesel turbo. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0206.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0207.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0208.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0209.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0210.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0211.jpg bandsaw, dremel (air compressor dropped a valve) and torch made these. bench grinder to wire wheel/smooth the edges http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0212.jpg and the exhaust flanges. 5 3/8" bolts hold these puppies on, i'll need some bracing :6 http://a13.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/...9ce59922dc.jpg http://rebuilt.net/392_International_front.JPG shortblock (same as mine), then longblock (different coolant passages, not for heavy applications) that i'm using. 392ci, gear on gear cam drive, pushrod love http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...IMG_0111-2.jpg where im stuffing two turbos (inner fender/fender is off for cab rust repair) |
Re: started the ball rolling on my turbo IH build
That's a thing of beauty. Not only is the ex. volute ghetto fab, but you properly hacked the ---- out of yourself.
Well played, sir! |
Re: started the ball rolling on my turbo IH build
you will spool these no problem. The series 4 had the smaller rear housing than the series 5, port your wastegate housing tho because the series 4 had one small port and were notorious for spiking where the s5 had two wastegate holes that solved that problem.

Re: started the ball rolling on my turbo IH build
going to run external, and weld the internal shut.

Re: started the ball rolling on my turbo IH build
i might wind up re-hosting this thread in OG forum depending how things go. if noobs start jumping on it and being fucktards, it goes to the OG forum

Re: started the ball rolling on my turbo IH build (now with log manifold)
waiting for the sun to swing around to the garage before i weld it up, buuuutttttt.....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0214.jpg flange for reference to the manifold http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0213.jpg 1.5" pipe ell's, total was $21. O0 O0 O0 O0 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0215.jpg bolt spacing will be tight, i'm going to space these off a little bit. im probably going to get (4) more 90's and right angle them upwards so i can get to the bolts, unlike bigdaddy's pipedream bottom mount :6 |
Re: started the ball rolling on my turbo IH build (now with log manifold)
You should rock a toplog and cut two holes in the hood like FearsomeDan or who ever did the twin setup on that red 'maro.

Re: started the ball rolling on my turbo IH build (now with log manifold)
I recommend you poop in the IM before you attempt to start it.

I'm more than happy to pay your expenses (but not medical bills) to come down here and try that. She'll break your ass down like a shotgun, sir.

So she's Puer'aricana?

Re: started the ball rolling on my turbo IH build (now with log manifold)
got the log done, outside of turbo placement and such. waiting for it to cool down since the fittings are cast. i might go with a double bead later on after i pick up a spool of fluxcore
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0121091255.jpg flange in place (for ideas) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0121091441.jpg some stainless mixed in with the cast iron pipe fittings for ultimate gangster hmt fluxcore action :6 O0 i dumped a bunch of ---- i had out on top of my toolbox looking for something that was already on top of the box :1 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0121091451.jpg tacked halfway, welded the other half. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0121091535.jpg done :6 :6 :6 :6 when it cools, ill start mocking for the turbo placement, going to run external off of the back of the log (the open ended T) |
Re: started the ball rolling on my turbo IH build (now with log manifold)
does the copious amounts of fluxcore and pipe fittings make this an OG forum item? either way, more updates.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0216.jpg lol, this is the center of the flange. warped slightly inwards, usually it pulls the ears in http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0217.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0218.jpg more dirty fluxwelds. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...x/IMG_0219.jpg hmt love :6 |

the manifolds are hmt's finest collaboration of fluxcore stainless and black iron, turbos are from rx7's. will be ordering a new holley 600 (a 2bbl 350cfm flows enough to feed these dinosaurs) and throwing a tophat on it. if i remember it right, i can boost reference the fuelpump, but i can't exactly buy them in stores anymore, so it's either going to be an electric one i can reference, or elec + 1:1 regulator (this ---- gets more $ than the rest of the build) |
