Ditch the stock efi, toss megasquirt on it and a proper efi intake and you are good to go. The g54b is a stout ass 4cyl, but in typical dsm/dodge style it is everything that is around the motor that is crap.

A guy that runs at my local track has a 2jz in his conquest, to me that or a 7mgte would prolly be the only way to go. pretty sexy cars tho

all the g54b are now approaching 20 years old. Ie falling apart. Not to mention you couldnt get parts for them 5 years ago when I worked for mitsu. Good luck getting anything OEM now.

I love the chassis. Hate the motor. Too bad they fall to the crusher far too often. It is a money pit, but if you can endure its quite the platform.

ok heres the gist of it.

the tranny and driveline is stout. The heads on those things are ----. change em out for http://www.racetep.com/dod_mit.html heads. the EFI system is ----, but you can make some ok money.

all in all its a good project car.

also, a 4g63 mitsubishi engine bolts right up to the tranny. and the 2.6 liter engine is the same one mazda makes and puts into the b2600 pick up trucks.

Your right, the 4g63 does bolt up, but only the wide-block 4g63 bolts to the stock conquest/starion transmission. And those only came in starions overseas. I personally have never seen a wideblock. The common dsm 4g63 narrow-block will not bolt up.

It takes an adapter to mate the narrow block (ie 99.999% of 4g63) to the starion trans. (which shares many components with the FC btw)

Honestly, your best bet is to find a wideblock 4g64(all longitudinal 4g64 are wideblock) which will bolt straight to the trans. From there you can slap a 63' head on or whatever. Not too difficult.

Re: starion

And to add not all b2600 trans' work. only the 87-88 because they used the same 2.6L bottom end as the starquests. The B2600 is an R series trans, the same as the TII and the FD. If you wanted to use the narrow block you can use the Mighty Max trans but its weak. The best solution ive heard is the Mighty Max trans with the Starion internals if you wanna swap a 4g63

---- it. Make your own. If the adapter is 1" thick, just make a spacer. Find a good torque converter shop and tell them what you want to do, chances are theyve done something of the nature in one form or another. It really wont be hard for them to measure/weld new inserts to your converter to bolt a 4g63 flexplate to a GM 9" converter. Starter clearance will be the only issue. Not a big one though.
