stainless steel strength ???

Are stainless steel bolts strong enough to hold my Turbo to the exhaust manifold ? I know they're no grade 8. this is a difficult size bolt, that is why I'm considering it.

I would be wary of using stainless for that application as it galls and when you try to remove them they either break or strip the thread,Nickel Neverseize helps,I would use the correct grade 8.8 Hi tensile bolts or Unbrako Capscrews

You can use SS if you need to but if its made out of SS it's most definitely made out of other high grade steel. Anti-seize is always nice like Coxy said. i like the copper stuff better for exhaust manifolds though. You can always hit up the junk yards for some good quality automotive grade studs. CHEAP! Some of the newer Saturns have some good ones that are M8x1.25. Bring a reverse torx socket for these. Whats it going on?

The problem is they are M10 x 1.25 with a low socket cap

I'm pretty positive Miatas have M10x1.25 studs. So are studs out of the question? Throw some pics if there are hard to reach areas.

My bad they are 1.5 pitch.. How much $ are you working with and whats it on? You can always drill and helicoil them for a more common M10x1.5 pitch. Plus helicoil rocks for strength on aluminum heads.

If you think Helicoil is the way to go then checkout Wurth Timeserts these take thread repair to an all new level, not cheap though as I have 6x1,8x1.25.10x1.25,10x1.5 and 12x1.25 and that lot owes me around $1500.00,but they are the ultimate for mission critical thread areas.

well every thing is installed now with the stainless hardware if I end up with a problem I will helicoil for sure.

Timeserts are ------ sweet. I love the collars on em. But they definitely show the advantages in the price.
