As a company currently sponsoring a couple of folks, I'll share a little about how I chose them.

They were people already out there doing it, proving they had the skills and the drive to get it done on their own. One of them is a drag racer, an independent who was already making a name for himself, had already appeared on national tv, who came to me with an offer of exposure for my company, in exchange for a particular deal on a certain part he needed to go faster. The guy knew what he wanted, and could give our company the exposure in exchange (in a national forum). The other car we sponsored were two kids doing a turbo project for their senior thesis in high school. They had both their mentor and teachers call us to vouche for them, and had well laid out plans for our products and how they would represent our company.

Although differnt types of folks, theyboth had drive and determination, and presented themselvses well.

Hope that helps,

Craig
