Default SOHC OR DOHC? updated!!! yipee!!!

READ THE LAST POST!

well my POS engine is near the end of its life. and i ended up ------ it up more with the intake swap i did this week. i think my crank is bent(no seriuosly, ask stealth) and the engine is making noises that just dont belong. it doesnt want to rev past 6500rpms either. i dont think the massive amounts of boost ive been raping it with have helped either. ok so should i try to put together another vtec sohc or get a zc? i can sell all my valve train and round up just enough for itso i wouldnt be spending too much. building a block is really out of the question because im cheap like that. it still a d series so i wont really be dissin the sohc right?

Stay with SOHC the parts are cheap, in fact I'll have a block (without oil pan) (D16Y and head (D16Z6) with the head gasket for sale for $100. They're both in running condition, even under extreme boost.

I imagine what you did was not bend the crank, but you probably slid a rod off its bearing, is it making clunking noises at idle? I did the same thing with my old engine when I didn't have proper fuel management.

You would need an intake and exhaust manifold for this engine. I can send you pics and ---- when I get it out of the car, but PM me if your interested.

at idle its ok. if i give it some gas teh engine shakes until about 2k then smooths out. what makes me this the crank is bent is the crank pulley moves around like crazy. that plus the shaking. oh and the car i pulled it from was wrecked. it has had that shaking pully since i installed it but it seems to be getting worse.

RENE, I THINK YOU SHOULD JUST STICK WITH THE SOHC.. ESPECIALLY IF UR GOING TO RAPE IT WITH BOOST. I THINK U SHOULD HOLD OFF A BIT AND GET A NICE TURBO EDIT SET UP FROM BONGNAK.. THEN YOU CAN RUN LESS BOOST AND HAVE AS MUCH POWER. COME DOWN ONE OF THESE DAYS

The only real diff. between DOHCs and SOHCs is the base horsepower. And that I think really comes from the compression differences. Take the b16a3 for example it runs higher compression then the d16z6 which would in turn make more power. Of course I suppose they would be more fuel efficient under boost. But in either event I don't think it will matter.

D-series parts are cheaper and easier to find then B-series so stick to sohc. When I get my block back I'll show you all what type of honda engine really kicks ***

Chacko, you're selling a Y8 bottom end and a Z6 top both for $100?

yeah they're junk to me once I get my new motor. THe heads are only selling for like $35 on eBay anymore and the blocks never had a good resell. The estimated mileage is about 35000 on the block and about 45000 on the head, but they're both in good shape. I ran 11 psi, but with water injection and intercooled. The pistons surfaces are actually quite clean compared to what you would normally see (water injection cleaning).
