Socal Smog

I currently live in St. Louis but I used to live in socal and I may be going back for college in a year. Here where I live there are no emissions tests. I was wondering if anyone just removes all the turbo accessories and returns the car to stock for or those who have swapped just swap engines back when emissions are called for. I also have heard that cops can force you to pop your hood if they pull you over? Is this true? If they find you have a turbo and completely smog illegal setup do you get slapped with a bunch of fines?

he's askin about so. cal not ct.

as far as the smog info in cali in order do get you car to pass smog you would have to take the turbo off and make it stock to pass, or find a place that will pass you for a lil extra $$$ but be careful its illegal to "bribe" a smog tech. as for the cops...yes they can make you pop your hood if they want(they did it to me) and if you refuse they can tow your car.... ca. emissions suck

Well do what I just did keep in the loop and pay 300 bucks thats what it costs kids dont be a cheap ass just pay the cash and dont ask questions illegal smog is harder to find out here. OH and the whole getting pulled over check under your hood stuff is if your dumbass street racing they will almost never do it on a rountine stop. But if your a ricer with clear tailights, wings and 3 colors are your car they will ---- with ya.

you only have to do it every 2 years. i just put it back to stock and run 2 cats.
i leave the oil feed and plug it. plug the oil pan also.
the last smog check cost me 21 bucks. the price drew me in but i will never go back there. he failed me the first time visually because of the msd and pulleys. passed after i took em out.

im thinking of rebuilding my old b7 and storing it for when smog comes around. swapping mtors might be easier. we'll see.
