Soooo....you want to work your *** into the ground?
its not like there actually working 110 hours. usually the dealer gives you say, 12 hours to do a motor swap. if you do it in 6 hours you still get paid for 12. cause it counts as a 12 hour job.
Thats called Flat-rate

and there are always hours to be made in dealerships, there are good jobs and bad jobs. 75% of our work is warranty, you just need to know how to write good storys to get paid

I have one friend who just got finished with his program a few months ago.

When he first went they fed him all this ---- about how easy it was to find a job after the program etc. and how you could make all this money.

Well, he finally found a job as a lube tech making like $8 an hour and changing oil all day long.

Doesn't seem like he's getting any return on that investment.

Whatever you do. Stay in school. It really sounds like you need it!

I went to UTI and then the Mercedes Benz Elite program. Was it easy to get a job? Yes. Was it worth the money? I don't think so. Was it fun? yes. I went to the campus in Illinois before all these other campuses were open. I didn't know much of anything about cars before I started at UTI. When I was done with UTI, I still didn't really know what I was doing. I needed more experience. I learned soooooo much when I actually started working.

I worked for Mercedes for 3.5 years and got the ***** of it. I realized I didn't want to work on cars for the rest of my life. I also got sick of alot of other bullshit.

Ex. Cleaning snow off of cars while you are punched on the job. (not getting paid)
Doing jobs that you don't get paid for.
Bullshit warranty work that doesn't pay ----.
Getting stuck in traffic and losing money. (If you have to test drive a car and the test drive pays 12 mins and you don't get back for 35 mins well then tough ----, you only get paid 12 mins) its fun working for free
When there is no work you don't get paid.
There is alot more that I can bitch about.

The senior guys or favorites got most of the good jobs. Flat-rate really sucks when you get shitty jobs. It can be awesome when you get good jobs. And like Jeff said, you need to learn to right a good story to get paid.

I know that being an automotive tech was not the job for me. There are much easier jobs that pay better. Its alot of work for not that much money. And the flat-rate times just kept going down. It got harder and harder to make money. I love working on cars, but not for a living. I know I wouldn't want to be doing that ---- when I'm older(40-50 yrs.old). My back and knees would be shot. I love not having to deal with the bullshit. I'm going to college now.
If you have any specific questions pm me.

I get payed a salary every two weeks, I have to get atleast 20hrs of work time in a week, after those 20hours I make $34 hr comission, but once again there is alot of bs, I just started working at this shop again and noticed on the computer that a brake job I did was'nt under my name, or some spark plugs I did on a supercharge linclon so there was more ---- in the way, to say the least I'm rather pissed.

The people that I see doing well are those that start at a dealership doing stupid ---- while they are going to school for auto stuff. They get in good with the dealership and in a couple years they are a legit mechanic, and already have a potential employer.
