so I was putting my motor back togheter.....

and I got to the last step of the torque sequence and to the last head stud, and then it wold not torque, it would just turn.

so I thought that it was pulling the threads from the block, but I was wrong.

ill let the pictures talk for themselfs.

GE studs FTW :P SO how many times did u use them? and how many ft-lbs did you tq them too?

98ctr 01-11-2007 09:16 PM

Re: so I was putting my motor back togheter.....

I torque them to 70 ft/lbs and used them for a couple of builds.

As someone suggested, contact ARP... show them these pics in an email or something, maybe they'll send a new one ;)

obvious in the 4th and 1st picture.

In the 2nd and 3rd they both look like the threaded part is 1" long so not seeing the point ???

Crazy though

Re: so I was putting my motor back togheter.....

jesus, you can even see where the stretch is, near the shorter threaded end (right side, in first pic). see how much narrower it gets.

lifetime warranty?

Re: so I was putting my motor back togheter.....

thats why arp advise's not to go anymore than 10lbs past manufacturer specs and not to resuse them several times, ive seen some people runs them over and over and not have a problem, some people they stretched on the second setup with them

maybe they use hotrex shipping?

98ctr 01-12-2007 01:27 PM

Re: so I was putting my motor back togheter.....

so I called ARP and talk to their Tech department.
This is what he told me.

"on a non competion motor you can resue studs up to 14 or more if no detonation occured"

"on a competion motor you can use them up to 4 times or more if they don't strech"

btw they are going to send me 1 new stud. Im going to use it to measure the rest of them and see if they streched at all. And no im not going to use them if they are ok.

Re: so I was putting my motor back togheter.....

I SNAPPED 2 arp studs on my last build

Both snapped where the threads end on the head side of the bolt

You can feel that there not torquing though

I just pulled another 2 from my spair car and never had a problem since, never even called arp actually
