so the drag strip is about to open again, what size...

drag radials would be good to put on it? if i run 15" rota slip streams on the front. would it be ok to run the 14s i have on the back? or should i just run slips on the whole car and put the drags on the front?

Re: so the drag strip is about to open again, what size...

You can do whatever and have a lot of fun, but the more serious minded you are...

You want the lightest skinnies on the back of your car possible: weight, and smaller contact patch for less rolling resistance. Slips all around *might* be lighter than 14" steelies, check into that. If those are your two primary wheel options I'd pay more attention to weight than contact patch for the rears.

As far as drag radials, some hook like mad on the street but suck on the track - so ask around. For slicks you want something on a smaller rim w/ some sidewall, but a large number of drag radials are designed with a semi-stiff sidewall to meet DOT approval so that theory doesn't neccesarily apply. Mickey I-tread drag radials, come in 215-235-250/50's on a 13" rim, and are designed to be run at lower psi. I've had great luck with them on the street, but never taken them to the track. I suck like that.

Re: so the drag strip is about to open again, what size...

I have Nittos Drag Radials on 14" rims. They're ok. I think I might try a different brand when I'm done with them. I hear good things about BFGs.

The rims I use are American Racing. I bought them because they were super cheap. I have lighter 15" alumnium rims on the back, because... that's the tire I always use. :)

But yeah, I'm more for the fun and less on the science.

get the ones with the sweetest adds in the import magazine with the coolest looking tread patteren.

http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/bfgap...p?source=micro

those shatterd the 1.0 g barrier!!!! and leading tuners and racers push them to the limit!

remember, the more brests in the add. The better traction you get. ^-^

Re: so the drag strip is about to open again, what size...

Best low-buck combo, TurbodEG can probably afford a little better but unless you drop $$$ on Bogarts and stuff it's really just cosmetics and not less weight, is VX rims as drag skinnies, and www.diamondracingwheels.com for the lightweight $50-60/per steelies in DOT-illegal .065" or .095" and a variety of diameters, offsets, widths, etc.

BTW, rawr, those DRs you linked to are the ones Wes runs on his gutted CRX. They hook well from a roll at the 400+ whp level, kinda scary as you can feel the high mileage rotted stock bushings in the suspension compressing as the car squats and starts fighting you to run into a guard rail. They are also the ones I hear aren't so great at the track so *shrug*

i just picked the ones that look the coolest, no techinical bias what so ever. :y I like to run on snow tires soaked in oil.

Re: so the drag strip is about to open again, what size...

Have you ever done a burnout until a tire popped, and then drove up and down the strip flinging sparks from the mangled steelie, to show your ass?

It beats spending money on snow tires and oil, y0!

Re: so the drag strip is about to open again, what size...

i have 14" miata rims on the car now...and they are pretty damn light...lighter than the konig helix's that were on it...i already have the extended lug stud on the front for a fatter rim...so now i just need the rim and the slicks.

Get to HT for DR recommendations, in the Drag Racing forum, ask for what hooks best at the track. The $bling$ niggr0xes will steer you right.

The newer Gforce T/A street tires are pretty nice. No idea about their drag radials.

We put a set of Mickey Thompson drag radials on my friends Nova and they are just awesome.Ten fold better than BFG but the smallest I believe they come in is 235 so you will need adjustable coils or a non lowered car.

What's a good street tire for 14inch steelies? Would it be beneficial to just buy 225 super wide tires?

There are still a handful of the original Falken Azenis floating around. $40-48/per tire, they have an H-speed rating due to having sidewall >55, but it is the same R rated compound used on the larger tire sizes.

i used nitto 555's at the track and i really did not like them, I would op for the BFG's as i have seen 1.8 60ft on them.. i couldnt get under 1.98 (best) on the 555's.

No joke? Only $50 max for those? I was going to sell my rims for an even more sleeper look. Do you have a link otherwise I'll search on tirerack.com. Any particular size or should I rock the 225/60/14?

The 14's only came in 195/60, and it looks like they are totally discontinued in 14" now :( I only ever purchased mine direct from Vulcan, while there may be other sources out there I dunno.

Sorry, bro, I tried.

It's cool. Your tried and I apperciate your effort. This is what took over the 215 Azenis:
http://www.vulcantire.com/azenis_rt615_t.htm Heard anything about these? Do you (or anyone) reccommend other good street tires? I heard these things wear SOOO quick it's not funny. How fast? How good are they (60' times)?

Re: so the drag strip is about to open again, what size...

My last set of 215's lasted me about 2000 miles. I felt that was reasonable, as I was at the limit of traction and had to feather throttle into 3rd due to wheelspin. When the CRX was still NA, the 215's lasted almost 10K. You'd get maybe 8K out of a heavier car that had no wheelspin.

Given the GRM hype, the 615 are probably an evolution of the 7-8 year old 215. Sounds like better tread pattern for wet performance. 215 were never great rain tires, but there was a noticeable difference between 215's in the rain the first week you owned them, and 215's in the rain after that point. I guess it was a poor treadpattern for the wet because the tires were still plenty fresh.

Only thing about the 615's.... WTF is a W-rating? What happened to the R?

I ran a 205/50/15 BF Goodrich G-Force drag radial, and with about 210ish whp in a heavy EX coupe I was hitting 2.0 60ft's

My buddy runs some Nitto 555r's on his Camaro and get's some damn good 60fts. They typically last a long time, and they do make a 205/14, which would be just up your alley

Question for guys with drag radials... Do you guys warm them up at the track or run cold? I usually give them a good spin in the B/O box, but I've yet to know if I really need to do that. Sometimes they almost feel too slick after burning out.

Warm thems ---- up. You're probably not spinning them enough.

Thank you. I'm not really hard on my car; therefore, the tires either really. I will put down probably a little over 200whp so I think I could get some decent use out of them. I have yet to find anyone still have the old Azenis. Guess I'll wait to hear from people about the new ones.

What were your 60's like? Best was 2nd time at the track 2.309 and that wasn't my best run. 16inch Rota Grids with Hankook HRIIs. I dropped my 60' mostly from not smashing the gas like a monkey and FTL.
