It think the hype is more around making fun of the movie becuase it isounds terrible and has a gay title.

Fast and the Furious made a ton of money. As corny as some of the parts were it was 10x better than any other movie out at the time.

The movie is being hyped because it is supposed to be a terrible movie. A lot of the hype is that all these huge stars signed on to do a shitty shitty movie and it is part of pop culture now, or soon to be. Making fun of it is part of the fun of the movie, I heard it talked about somewhere and basically it is meant to be a shitty movie.
