SMOG CHECK Q (cali sux)
 

one thing i hate about cali are the emissions testing.. (wish I was back in the backwoods states)

anyway, I've never had to do a smog check and just found out they check for emissions (1) at 15 MPH & (2) at 25 MPH.

I failed the 15MPH but passed the 25MPH one. . any recommendations as to what may be wrong with the vehicle? its a old '86 MR2 non-FI(forced induction).

what gets me is that my speedometer doesnt work (hence how did they know I was running at those speeds).

The car is on a dyno like roller, so they don't need your speedometer. Have a muffler shop weld in another cat (in addition to the one you already have) and you'll pass.

too many cat will casue it to burn too lean. (too much NOX or NO2 or whatever it is started with an N :P)
