Yah, just need to hijack the power knob controls to the pedal. I have no idea why they didn't come that way in the first place.

Re: Smiley TIG/Mitec mayhem... anyone still using these?
Would it be a good idea to do a pedal mod with 2 potentiometers inline? Like keep the first potentiometer on the welder, so you can set the maximum amount of amps, then run another pot off of the signal to have a variable control of amps in that range?

You could throw it on a switch.

Re: Smiley TIG/Mitec mayhem... anyone still using these?
they make pots that have a mechanical switch built in and can be used for 2 circuits, that would be good for the gas button. :)

Re: Smiley TIG/Mitec mayhem... anyone still using these?
The switch function could also be performed by a simple op-amp circuit. It takes more time to do and do neatly than it does to sketch the circuit required.

Re: Smiley TIG/Mitec mayhem... anyone still using these?
i still use mine to tig / plasma on a pretty much weekly basis.
when i did that last turbo v6 camry a month ago at one point it probably welded for 3 hours almost non-stop without cutting off or frying. that 16-20 gauge pipe simply doesn't take enough heat to warm them up on the inside to toaster level. |
Re: Smiley TIG/Mitec mayhem... anyone still using these?
What amperage were you set to? Thanks.

Re: Smiley TIG/Mitec mayhem... anyone still using these?
no idea. there's no digital gauge, and my pot was taken out of the face & i dropped it in an old dremel foot control pedal i have. all i can tell you is that it was done on 110v (instead of 220v, love the automatic line switching :D) and the only times i likely ever passed 1/2 output is welding all the flanges up. (5 flanges, 2x 2" 3x 2.5")
