... what is your choice for a 9mm?

I know there are a few gun threads and quite frankly I don't care.

I'm looking for a really good carry gun. I really had my heart set on a Kimber 1911, but realistically I didn't think it was a logical gun to haul around. Love that gun though, nothing like showing rifle shooters 25yd headshots.

So back to the question at hand. I've been really considering the Sig P229, thought about a glock and now considering a CZ or a baby eagle.

Not too concerned about $ figure, but since it's only a 9 would prefer for it to be less than a grand. Looking for a solid piece that's still pretty accurate at a distance. I guess I'm not set closed minded to just a 9mm, will entertain others just as long as it fits the criteria [main one being a good carry gun].

So fire away your opinions. I'm not too knowledgable in the firearms [I just like to shoot them], so bear with me and give reasoning/experiences on your choice.

Dont know too much but Glocks are good reliable and cheap. i think a fully loaded subcompact 40 cal is like 600 ballpark last i checked.

I had always heard that 40's were better as far as knock down power but i dunno, im interested to hear thoughts as well.

well, i carry my taurus 24/7 pro, i think its a 4 inch barrel and has a 17 round magazine, and yes 40 cal is definately more potent than a 9mm but i like the ability to carry more rounds without reloading. That said, the 24/7 is a peice of crap, if i needed too i'd cut that gun up and destroy it, which is good being that its a carry weapon. No point in carrying an expensive gun that you might later on have to destroy, or have the police confiscate, then destroy. If you have your heart set on a 9mm you cant go wrong with glocks, a glock17 is the original, always copied but never duplicated. There are springfield XD's aswell which are good weapons. Or you can go with a revolver, 100% reliable, much more so than a semi auto, only downside is that the amount of shots it fires is less, but lemme tell you a 357 packs quite a punch and will do the same amount of damage as 2 9mm rounds IMO. I have a 1911 aswell but i wouldn't use it for carry, its too nice and too big to conceal. Concealment and suprise is the first thing you need to go after so i'd recomend a g17, compact glock, or a small revolver. my 2 cents.

This is the first gun I had. Smith and Wesson SW9VE. It's a good replica of a glock, and only about $290 new. It's too big to carry around really, and for a first gun will do you well, but once you have a quality gun this one will feel like a daewoo. Other than UMC ammo, I never had it jam or anything.

So that one was too big, so then I got a Smith and Wesson M&P9C. They're around $500 new, they're small, built well, and has never given me a problem. I sometimes wear the thing with swim shorts and you can't even tell. I've shot similar compacts before I bought this one, and they all either felt like junk, or had a real wide slide on them. I don't think I'll ever replace this one.

i carry a interarms .40 s&w. It was not that much $$ and is small framed and carries
well. In connecticut it has to be concealed so compact is a must. Here is a picture i found on the net.

Well i guess i like my taurus too, but i love my 1911. And i kind of compare everything to my 1911 and not much else can match up with it, especially any plastic guns. But my taurus is pretty reliable, loaded with 135gr JHP and 17 rounds. If it only held 10 rounds i would hate it. murdoc, check out www.calguns.net its the best gun site for CA, and they can definately point you in the right direction, also check their classifieds, you'll find good deals sometimes.

my first 9mm i owned was a glock 17. i loved that gun, was easy to pack around and had 2 17rd clips. so what it lacked in knock down power it made up in lead lobbing capacity.
