should i use the a6 (bare) or the z6 block (bent rod)?
 

i bought a bare block d16a6, hot-tanked, but its been sitting in his shed, so its got minor surface rust on the cylinder walls....nothing some honing wont fix. i also have a d16z6 short block coming. it has 1 bent rod. does a bent rod definetly mean other damage? should i build the z6 or the a6? or should i answer the question myself, when the z6 comes on wednesday, and take everything apart....and post pics for you guys to look at? thanks for your help.

chances are your z6 got fucked up and i would go with the a6. are you gonna build it or just run it stock? if your planning on sleeving it wont matter either way.

a bare block a6? if you ---- with either or your in the same boat.... doesnt matter wich one.

I'd say go with the a6 cause if the z6 bent a rod then the crank may be fucked up and need work. I'd go with the a6.

but if the a6 is a bare block, it has no crank or bottom end. best bet would to be go to the junkyard and find a motor that works..

Why buy another engine if he's got a good A6 block? Last time I checked 1.6 cranks aren't too expensive. I assume you already have a head picked out for your setup or not yet. If you don't then I'd say just get a motor from the junkyard.

im just doing a mild build....forged pistons with h-beam rods, and either fill or block guard. probably end up with a new crank, and honing, which i planned on doing anyways. ill have to check out the z6 when it comes. yeah im planning on using a z6 head. i had originally wanted to use a y7, but everyone said a vtec head has better flow. i already have the a6 and z6, so im going to make something work between them, no more money on motors. thanks.

hey guys, got the d16z6 today, it didnt have a bent rod, im going to have a couple people look at it, cause this is the first motor ive taken apart. but there didnt appear to be any other damage. im gonna get it cleaned up, and see if theres any damage, otherwise, shes ready for the build.
