should i report car stolen??? UPDATE

ok guys, i need some opinions/advice... i sold a car to guy A, i know for 550 bucks, and he gave me 400 up front for it, and promised me the other 150 the next morning. At that time i would give him the title for the rest of the cash. well its been about a week of dicking around. Last night guy B came to my house saying that guy A sold it to him and he wanted the title, i talked to guy B and he is pretty cool about it. Turns out guy A spent all the money he got from guy B for the car on Oxycottons. But now guy A has basically disappeared and is nowhere to be found. sorry if that is confusing to understand...I really could give a ---- about the car or the 150 bucks, but i really dont want a dope-fiend driving around a car in my name... but should i report the car stolen? go try and find the car and steal the car back? any advice or opinions would be appreciated... I know i made a mistake by not taking all the money up front, lesson learned.... thanks guys

Re:should i report car stolen???

so wait, does the original buyer still have the car, or the guy who showed up at your door?

Re:should i report car stolen???

rewrite that ---- using guy A and guy B and ---- like that, I get confused, I thought there were 2 guys but there might be 3 or something.

Re:should i report car stolen???

if the original buyer has the car, call the cops and report it stolen. You will probably get in trouble for this, cause you willingly gave him the keys and I'm pretty sure you didn't have the 150 payment agreement on paper.

Either way call the cops.

Re:should i report car stolen???

original buyer has it, i know its stupid of me to do, but he was a friend and i trusted him... big mistake i know... the guy wanting the title only put a down payment down, so no proof of sale im guessing....

where do you live? im in jersey and a similar thing just happened to a friend of mine. He sold the car to a druggy and didnt get all the cash up front, then the kid couldnt come up with it. My friend finds out the kid owes money to some people and offers to give the kid like half of what he paid for the car to get it back, but when he meets up with him he finds three guys who rob the cash from him at gunpoint :-X

Re:should i report car stolen???

guy he sold it to is fucked. Tell the second buyer to give you 150, and he could have the title. That way he can mess with the cops. He could say, I bought the car, I have the title, and he never delivered the car.

Either way SEND IN A RELEASE OF LIABILITY FORM FOR THAT DAMN CAR!!! You don't want that ---- hitched on you still.

moral of the story: don't do drugs. I quit selling that ----, too dangerous.

Re:should i report car stolen???

if they dont have any proof ---- both of them! report it stolen, and when they find it they will bring it back to you. or you could repo the ----------er. thats what banks do when you stop making payments for a long period of time, technically its thier car.

yup it's called lienholder.

But in your case, you are the registered owner, so if this douche does anything illegal with the car, guess whose responsiblity is it? Yours.

Call the cops and tell them he never showed back up with the car. They will probably ask if you want to report it stolen, and you say yes.

And you don't have an address or contact information for this guy? If not, you really need to do that, it's stupid to sell to a person that doesn't exsist (you have no info on him, he don't exsist).

If you're only out
and guy b paid guy a for the car
and guy b has the car
and guy b will give you 200
why not take it and give him the title, you're up 50 bucks and write out a bill of sale like guy a never existed.

i would call the police and ask to speak to a detective, explain your situation, the car is not stolen so dont waste the police time tell them that you need assistance with a repossesion, i hope you have a bill of sale and a extra key, if i were you i would go get the car and bring it back to your house, and put it back up for sale

Fill out the form on the bottom to transfer title.

Get the $200 from Guy B. You are now legit and $50 richer than you thought you would be. You need to get this car out of your name though if you cannot control what is happening with it. I cannot stress that enough.

Seriously man, go to the DMV, ask for this form takes 5 min to fill out, no charge, hand it to the lady and leave, or if they ask say you sell the car.

My dad fucked up selling his 91 Ranger a few years back, he sold it for like $1500, aparently it was stolen before the people we sold it to registerred it under there name, was thrown in some sort of ravine, guss who had to pay the $800 towing/rescue/contamination fee? DADDY

If you sign the form, you are no longer liable for anything that happens to or with the car, and you can still try and get the $150 back if you please

In a situation like that you should write up a bill of sale saying the sum payed and the rest owed so you have a copy and he'll have a copy that way you would be 100% in the clear

Re:should i report car stolen??? UPDATE

well, i went and filed a report of sale (the lady said i can file that the sale fell through when i get the car back)so i am no longer liable and then went to the police station, they said i can report it stolen, so i am going to do that tonight, but i wanted to give the guy some warning that he is gonna be arrested if he drives the car, and to bring it to my house by tonight. i got an offer from his dad to pay me 100, but ---- that, its not the money its the principle, ive been waiting a week, and im not losing money on this. there still might be a repo mission though ;) but probly not, i wanna go about this legally.
