http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...barufr.500.jpg TOKYO — As if paying homage to Subaru, Toyota is co-developing a new lineup of rear-wheel-drive sporty coupes employing a revised version of the Subaru Impreza's platform, boxer engine and transmission. Toyota's largest contribution to the mix will be product planning and its impeccable quality control. The Toyota model, still to be named, will be sold exclusively in Japan, while the Subaru-badged model will be marketed worldwide. The mechanical package will be identical, but both Toyota and Subaru will create exterior designs to differentiate their cars from each other. The basis for this new radical project is to take Subaru's well-known 4WD powertrain and modify it to create a new rear-wheel-drive setup. Slated to be built at Subaru's Gunma plant in Japan, both Toyota and Subaru models will employ a revised version of the naturally aspirated boxer 2.0-liter unit generating around 220 horsepower at 6,500 rpm, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox from the current Impreza WRX STI. Surprisingly, the joint Toyota-Subaru R&D team has chosen the out-of-production, front-wheel-drive Honda Integra Type R as its benchmark, because its styling, performance parameters and dimensions mirror what the development team wants to create. Expected to ride on a 103-inch wheelbase, the 2,866-pound coupes will use a 2+2 seating configuration. Slated for a late 2011 debut, the coupes are expected to be priced starting just under $20,000. I wonder if they'll offer a turbocharged version. |
Re: Sexy new subie

Re: Sexy new subie
in the spirit of HMT ;) then yeah i guess . They will find a way to ---- it up anyways by throwing a big old hood scoop :l on it lol

Re: Sexy new subie
Looks promising.Providing the engine management/fuel system isnt to complicated a simple aftermarket turbo kit and you have a sweet ride.

Re: Sexy new subie
dont all subies come with the option to turbo
|
Re: Sexy new subie
If they're just using a "revised" version of the 2.0L, then they very well may just keep the same old ecu and exhaust flanges/manifolds. If that's the case, we should be able to just use older turbo manifolds or aftermarket ching-chong ebay manifolds.

Re: Sexy new subie
now the question is who's going to be the first to drop a turbocharged 2.5L or a turbo 3.0i out of the legacy

Re: Sexy new subie
I wish Toyota would man up and build a sports car for us in the states, and make it turbo. Bring back the supra, but not that gay v8 abortion they designed. Keep it true to the name.
I6 + turbo goodness. :y |
Re: Sexy new subie
i dunno why these car companies are such assholes..why do they just wanna sell to the japanese..just release the ------ cars world wide

[/quote] This sounds like a bunch of BS to me. Niether of those companies would adimit that there goal is a 8 year old car from an other company that didn't sell for ---- is their benchmark. They could have just as easily said the supra was a benchmark. This sounds like bs made up to get a bunch of ricer's panties wet. |
Re: Sexy new subie
I just saw one of the new STIs modeled after more of a hatchback (ala renault)... Took about 30 seconds to get used to the new look, but I think like it...
