setup idea opinions*no pics*

turbo set-up idea:
(1) 351 windsor block bored .60 over
(2) garret t4oe turbos
(1) holley 174 power charger
(8) JE low compression pistons .60 over
(2) Trick flow heads
(8) Scat forged rods
(1) Scat forged crank
(1) Holley double pumper 850 cfm carb

This is just an idea for my setup on my ford, what you think?

Re:setup idea opinions*no pics*

what do I think? you'll have to get the carb modified to accept boost or you'll have lots of problems. the guy at pony carbeurators told me that holly sucks and the only reason why they sell so much is because they have a huge advertising budget.

wat about a demon?

Honda16hb 05-18-2004 11:37 PM

Re:setup idea opinions*no pics*

he didn't talk ---- about demon, but he was real proud of factory ford carbs. Pony carbs is a place that specializes in rebuilding/restoring ford carbs, they just moved their opporation from new york to my little ass town, they do carb work for people all over the country.

ill have to look into that

Re:setup idea opinions*no pics*

they said it's 300-400 bucks to get your ---- redone all perfectly, they even tune them on some engines they have set up there with an engine dyno. it's pretty pricey, but I don't know how much a new carb costs.

Re:setup idea opinions*no pics*

listen from a guy who done some work on turbo-ing Fords.

351 is a good strong block - you got it there.
but one thing i might say is there is no need for forge pistons if you know how to tune it right. Why I never went forge? because half the time my (302) that is slit right down the middle. The block of the 302 is weak ass hell. I have never seen the piston go before the block. Rods and crank is a good insurance but the block will let go and it'll be useless.

I'm going to take a stab at this and guess this setup will never happen. Do you have any of these parts or are you just day-dreaming?

The total cost of your parts is well into the $5000 range with machining and other parts necessary to finish the motor. Is that within your budget?

Re:setup idea opinions*no pics*

long term without money invested so far=no go. get maximum boost, it tells you what you need to do to make a carb handle boost.

(2) garret t4oe turbos
What are your power goals? T04s are pretty big, dual t3s (60 trims) are prolly a better choice

Re:setup idea opinions*no pics*

Okay first using two turbos and a supercharger isn't the best idea you'd be better off just using the two turbos or a bigger superchargers. Second you would be better off with forged pistons, with big power you will break ringlands or burn piston. As far as carbs go of course someone who works at a shop that speacializes in rebuilding factory carbs is gonna tell you to use their product. I prefer holley carbs over new demon carbs. The new demon carbs do not use metering blocks. Demon carbs used to take holleys and go throught them and those were good, but not the new one's. I'm not saying they're junk but I think holleys are better. Also if the boost is blowing through the carb you do need a carb with a power valve that is reffrenced for boost. Hope this is a little help and you should build it cause we need some stuff that is different on here.

i know two turbos and a supercharger arent the best idea thats y i chose to do it
i will probably end up with holley carbs just because there about half the price of the demons

If your doing this to do some thing totally different then go for it, but keep in mind the rest of teh car. A trans built to the hilt at least a grand and a fully built 9 inch with bigger axles at least 2k but good luck keep us posted and I'll take donations if your in a really big hurry to spend a pile of money. ;)
