Setting engine to TDC without a socket for the crank pulley

I had my car in my college auto shop and I was replacing a blown head gasket.. I think I might have put my distributor in a tooth off.

The shop is now closed for finals, so I don't have access to all their tools. I borrowed a craftsman tool set from my friend, but usually I set my motor at tdc with a big ass socket that I don't have access to now. Any other ways to set the motor to tdc without a crank pulley socket?

buy a socket, they don't cost that much. you'll probably need it again anyways

You dont need a crank pully socket. Just a socket big enough to fit on the bolt holding the poully in place. If I remember rite its like a 17mm or so.

or buy one from advance auto parts, they will return it when ur done, no questions asked. Kind of skeevy I know but I used to work there and advance can burn in hell.

If you get the CSK/Vatozone brand it will be <$10 and save you some time. Just buy it. :P

Pull the plugs so you are not dealing with the compression with cranking it over. You should be able to do it with your hands or use a old assc. belt for some leverage.
