serious.. ? ...
well the last couple of weeks ive caught myself thinking...
why do we do what we do to cars? .. whats the point? and to tell u the truth i couldnt come up with one good reason at all so i ask u guys whats the point? |
Re:serious.. ? ...
ive been thinkin the same thing for a while. i think im just gonna buy a nice car rather than putting a lot of cash into junk. but i will probably have a project car that'll take years to finish. hahaha. i guess it could be to make it fast!!! :)

Re:serious.. ? ...
but whats the point of going fast?
|
Re:serious.. ? ...
Its a hobby, going fast is fun so thats why I do it. Nothing is better than the rush of a fast car.
Most people build their cars to impress other people, and they are usually the people who ask questions like "why am I doing this?" and to me they do it for the wrong reasons. |
Re:serious.. ? ...
whitey hit, it, i love going fast, my car is my stress relief, gives me something to do, and gets u -----.
|
Re:serious.. ? ...
Speed. Whitey's right about that rush, almost better than road head. The fact that knowing a car you have maybe a total of $6000 or less can smoke a $30,000 ride is also pretty damn satisfying 8)

I love going fast.I love freeway racing at 4:am.I love it when your heart speeds up and your hands get all tingely and sweaty couse your spedo is pegged and the rpms keep climbing in 5th gear at 10psi.The adrenalin is pumping and your shaking in your seat.Thats beter than any drug I.M.O. I also love the look on the other guys face when your civic is keeping up with his Corvette till he decides to shift into 6th. |
Re:serious.. ? ...
i build my cars for my own personal enjoyment but were do u draw the line... i mean theres so many reasons not to do it i was just wondering the diffrent reasons why u guys do it..
|
Re:serious.. ? ...
Well I think you draw the line when you have to decide wether to pay bills or buy a new part.I think you should go as far as you can aford it.
I personally do it couse I like to work on cars.I like to get dirty and have the personal satisfaction of knowing that I built something that was fun, cheap and fast. I wouldnt do it If I had no mechanical skills and had to pay someone to do it. |

I've been turning a wrench and trying to go as fast a possible since I was 10, starting off with dirt bikes and 4-wheelers. Going fast in a car was just natural since I was doing it for so long. However, I don't let my hobby take over my life. My education, morgage and other priorities come first. Thats why I own a D-series. Obviously you've never gone really fast, there's no better therapy than it. |
Re:serious.. ? ...
i have a habit of building and destroying things. I've been like this since i was young. This car is like an experiment for me too. Its not even the thrill of going fast, i really just like learning and basically...tearin' ---- apart! :)

Re:serious.. ? ...
an untuned 20psi is alot slower then a tuned 20 psi... lol
we do it because it bring us all together, makes us have something to do as friends and to go fast together, atleast thats why i do it. |
Re:serious.. ? ...
lol, sounds like you're just kind of growing out of it :-\ My former step-dad was telling me about how he went to Jiffy Lube.. and I didn't see the big deal, until I realized that this was the first time he ever had someone else change his oil. He's just having too many things go on in his life.. sounds like it might be doing the same with you, having a child and all (congrats, btw). I'd say try and worry about the kid and the girl for now ;)

Re:serious.. ? ...
going fast is a bonus, a by-product. I have more fun working on my car, learning about high performance engine design, and installing ghetto turbo setups that boost 10 pounds in 3rd, and only 2 in 2nd? 8)

Re:serious.. ? ...
speed is a drug
|
Re:serious.. ? ...
they say speed is addicting but i think its the object of controling the speed thats addicting. i do what i do to my car because it is a stress reliever, when i first started modifing my cars it was really the only thing that could take my mind of the real world (my life) wich wasint all that great. when i was having a bad day or i was really upset i would get in my car and just drive and it would calm me down and would make me happy. know days i do it because its a hobby that im addicted too, i have found that i am never satisfied with the car thow i always wanna go faster and know that my car is by most people considered really fast i realize i will never be satisfied with the speed aspect because in the end there is always somone faster than you, but i can always could on my car to cheer me up when im felling shitty :D

Re:serious.. ? ...
I am not sure your question is "Why do we do it". I thinkit is more "Should I keep doing it?".
I do most of the things I do to ge the adrenaline rush. I have no quesiton as to why I build up my car, its so I can go fast on the street and the track, and anywhere else where I can carry speed. But, I am in a situation now where I have to decide if I can/should do it anymore. I am getting a new job and will need a car to run perfectly every day, so a blown motor on a Tuesday night or a car that keeps stalling on me isnt an option. Plus, kids are in my very near future, and I dont think I want to carry my kids around in the tiny ass coupe that is loud, rides rough, and smells like exhaustt all the time. My decision is to get the car running right and sell it, put a down payment on a bigger ride with a respectable amount of power, and then be happy with it. I know it wont make me happy, but Its what I am going to do. |
Re:serious.. ? ...
its a passion, hobby etc. i do it cause its what i like to do. the outcome is the bonus

i guess this ? has a lot of importance to me seeing that i just found out that im becoming a dad in 7ms.. I tried to sell my car at the time my son was born but couldnt.Nothing has to change as long as your child is allways your #1 priority. It doesnt hurt to get some life insurance eather. Its nice to know that if you do meet st.peter while having fun your family will have one less thing to worry about...money.I have 2 policies. One for $500k and one for $250k.I figure there is nothing more certaine in life than death.Wny not leave the ones you love a few bucks ;). |
Re:serious.. ? ...
honestly i am pretty sure every single one in this forum had think about it once of twice.
but such a question usually came up only when there`s sudden change in ur life, something has to do with ur $$ or ur time. everyone likes it because it gives you a feeling, a feeling that only certain ppl could understand => (us in HMT 8)) it`s like sex, something additive, ask your self y do u like sex, what do u get from sex, it`s just a feeling after all ;) u could get tired of sex if you ---- 20 times a day, but if u hang on to it for a week or so, i am pretty sure u will loved it again. |
