Selling a car without Title in Oregon? How?

I am looking at buying a car in Oregon, I am in WA. The owner of the car is waiting for a reissued title for the vehicle in the mail, is there a way for me to purchase the vehicle without having the actual title, such as if i went to the DMV with the current owner? I am pretty sure in WA you can sign an Affidavit in Lieu of Title at the DMV to transfer a car, I was wondering if anyone knew if Oregon had a similar system or had any info on the subject

You are asking the wrong people. Contact the DMV, they have the answers.

In MN you need the actual title, no other way around it. Kinda sucks.

That really doesn't help you are all though.

Yeah I went to the licensing office here in Seattle yesterday and got an affidavit in lieu of a title. you can do it right on the spot instead of waiting the 8 weeks to get a new title in the mail, and it only cost 10 bucks. I would just call a licensing office, or the dmv.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever had any experience with such an experience. Unfortunately I called the WA DMV and they said the in lieu of title is only applied to cars with current WA titles, and OR said they do not have a similar system, and even if i went in to the DMV in OR i could not release the seller's interest, he would need to wait the 8 weeks for the paper version of the title to arrive then he could sign it over.

I was just hoping for loop holes... still listening incase anyone has any... or any ins.... ;D
