selling 95 civ for 98 VW golf, got questions

Im selling my 95 civic dx auto and am getting a 98 5spd 2.0L golf.

The golf is a hell of a lot cheaper on insurance and will make a nice 4dr family car but it is lacking on the power side. Anybody try bolting on the 4cyl turbo parts to this? also what has anyone on here done as far as a engine management /family car.for a W. dont want a vr6 swap or that just thinking litle turbo, smic, 5-7 psi winter.

My buddy has a 96 golf and we were going to turbo it, though he read into it and decided not to. I will get all the details for you.

Re: selling 95 civ for 98 VW golf, got questions

the civic is slightly moded and riced around with and im try to stay away from touching this one. its just hard to have a stock car when the REX is away. if its a big problem to do this that would be perfect

A wife and a son I think I need a family car. I keep smoking my sons head of of the LCD screen everytime I lift him into the back seat(2Door) so with this 4dr VW im gonna put headrest screens in. I told the person who is buying the civic that they can keep the screen and system I just want my ps2 out of it

are you from canada i forget?
VW are decent cars, but as for turboing....depends on which motor, I've heard the 2.0 is a bitch. And if you want to keep it cheap, you gotta run on FMU.

I just got a call and I was saposed to get a tranny with the car because it grinds in reverse. now I need to find out the price of a tranny and if a 1.8 tranny will work in it. its a 2.0. Tommorow is the day I take the golf if I want it.

It grinds when you put it into gear or it jsut doesnt work at all?

Re: selling 95 civ for 98 VW golf, got questions

1-5 works perfect, goes into reverse perfect. when ur driving backwards the tranny sounds realy bad, grinding with speed of car in the tranny. Id like the golf but need a reliable car

The 2.0 tranny's are known to be a little on the weak side, I've known friends that are big into VW's and they are always talking about the tranny's. Go to www.vwvortex.com that addy should work and read up there. lots of good info.

There is software for ODB2 volkswagens to tune them.
there is the neuspeed supercharger & a ton of different turbo kits, vr6 swap, there's a shitload to do to them, the transmission is the weak point.

a ton of people have turboed the 2.0 and there's a bunch of differnet ways to do it. vw's arn't fun to drive though and I ended up selling mine.

I knew a guy with a TDI Beetle. Bitch ran mid 14's. Not HOLY CRAP fast, but not bad for a daily driver. I have no clue what he had done to it.

My sister had a 2.0 Beetle, brother in law blew up the tranny in about 4 months of driving it.

oh and the 2.0 sucked balls

They are the same engine but thety are not built the same. VW engines are mass produced in Mexico :8. Audi engines are still assembled by hand in the same factory where they assemble the Lambo engines in sourcrout ville......chief.

Reminds me of taking a ride in a stock d16 :P Yes, TDIs aren't the fast by any means but they have potential. Its a diesel, just needs more Fuel and Air...

volkswagen audi group. The 1.8t's not a bad block, its just everything attached to the block that sucks. Coil packs, valves, electronics, transmission.
