Samson AND Fastcrx Go To The Track...

Well, I was able to bug JD long enough to get him to meet up with me and go out to drag a little at the Mason Dixon Dragway yesterday. Overall it was a fun time, but we can both agree the track sucks horribly. I would wheel hop in the water box, but spin straight on the track itself. :-\ The track isn't the best and kind of rough, but hey when you show up and get 11 runs in (compared to the 4-5 I'm use to) it's worth it just to practice the basics. :y I honestly believe that the elevation is what played a HUGE factor yesterday. JD was trapping 103 before and didn't even hit 100 yesterday. :-\ Go figure. Well, I'm going to attempt to load some of the BETTER vids of us and some timeslips I have. JD come in and post up yours too, buddy. And on the side note, JD is one goofy cat, but definitly a fun dude to hang out with. Just like I thought he'd be, crazy. :S

1/4 14.473 14.406

Most of the runs were in the mid to higher 14s. Had maybe 2 15s runs. :-X I got better at the light and started cutting almost all my R/Ts to under .1 at the end of the day. All my runs were on wild and wonderful winter treads. ;) I was down to around 18psi then went to 15psi and cut my best 60's but slowed down my traps and I wanted atleast 100mph trap out of yesterday so back up to around 25psi and let her rip. JD was rocking all-seasons and he was toasting them all through first. I have the vid you can see he burns out better on the track then the box. LOL. ;D

You met up with Joseph Davis? Also, what happened to your rims? Sucks about the times, but atleast you got some more track time in. ;D

Yea, that is a camera/camcorder and I know it does a VERY poor job, but it's something. That neon ran a 13.2 so it wasn't all that bad of an SRT. I rev up and down because it's easier to hold it at that RPM rather than keep my foot still at that ONE spot, not to mention I usually bump up about 500RPM when I go to launch.

That is JD as in fastcrx JD not JD short for Joseph Davis. I'll get a better picture up Dan, thank you though I appericate it. I have ones with my new charge pipe and housing.

hmm what was the elevation there? Elevation does play a major role in power production/et's

High. That was one of the first things I noticed. I must have neglected to say that. :-\ ALL those cars were doing rough. Ran an SS Camaro that struggle to reach 13s. Those are 12 second cars. Let me try to find the elevation.

Agree with low 13s and them struggling to see 13s? I remember dude was complaining, but I believe he broke into 13.7s against me. Track elevation there says 535' which is hard to believe because we're IN the mountains. Maybe you can see in the backround on the vids the mountains we are a part of. Why don't I believe it? Well, you see the normal track I attend is 1250' and unless I'm COMPLETLY wrong it's not really near the Appacalchin(sp) Mountains. :-\ No clue, I thought it would be the other way around.

i think thats around the elevation the track i go to is at... I think the track i go to is a a slow track. SRT4s will struggle to break 13s even with the stage 1-2 kits, 350z's are running like 14.6 or whatever... stuff like that

What is high? The 1250'? I think that tracks is a faster track than the 535' track. Could be just a straight up gay track. :-\ You have expierence at different tracks? Thanks for all the input, bud. :y

your never gonna hit 13s hhaa

Re: Samson AND Fastcrx Go To The Track...

nah its not that high of a track but even still the cars should be running faster than what they are. They tell me at like 4000-5000 ft cars are running full seconds slower than they would at sea level. Could be a gay track too... same with the one i go to, somtimes they cant prep worth a ----, so nobody hooks up... Maybe thats the reason

Sure seems this way doesn't it? :-\

Well, like I said the track is kind of junky. The water box, I couldn't tell you where to burn out at? Each time the guy gave me a new place to and where you ran through the water was just like a concrete nasty looking rocky crap. I'll be back at my track in mid April. Hopefully, I'll have some better tires be this point too. That elevation wouldn't do much of anything I agree, but it just seems like it's higher due to being in the mountains and not looking UP at them. It was windy yesterday too, but I'm not going to sit here and make excuses. I'll just wait and get out to my track and see what's up.

Cecil County is 320ft. I usually judge how fast a track is by how well its prepped.

Would you be so kind as to give me an example to their "prepping"? I could go outside and water the street then 15ft later draw a line. That is why I'm asking. JK was telling me how he says that Cecil is a relativly fast track and another (I want to say Beaver, but I'm not sure) he said that is around that area is a very slow track. I want to run up at Cecil because I've heard good things from him about it. Don't get a lot of runs in out there though do you? He was telling me how last time he went they got like 2 runs due to cars breaking and what not.

Re: Samson AND Fastcrx Go To The Track...

Specs on the cars?

A few tips...try skipping the water box with radial tires, I've been told by many people who are more experience than I am that burning out in the water box with radial tires isn't a good idea.

Also try going to the track on an event day, typically the track surface will be prepped better and more guys with slicks will be running. If you can run behind somebody with slicks usually they won't trail any water up to the line.

Just a few things I picked up asking some of the experienced guys at my local drag strip.

samson 03-20-2006 06:01 AM

Re: Samson AND Fastcrx Go To The Track...

Thanks man. That's what JD was telling me to try to get behind the slicks guys. There is NO room to go around the box. I tried to go around at the hometown track and dude caught me and started motioning me to get back in it. :-\ I'm going to try to sell these rims and get some DRs or something. Why wouldn't you smoke those DRs? What tires are on the SRTs because those dudes were smoking them, but none the less they had decent 60s.
