they still hang people in three US states. New Hampshire for one and i thing Nevada i cant remember.

that allmost seems like they didn't even let him hang enough for him to die, or unless the fall snapped his neck and that is how he died. at the end it shows him laying on the ground dead with the rope around him. but if the fall didn't break his neck they would have had to let him hang there for a few min to die.
