I think it would be easier to do it rear engine and use a caddy transaxle.There is a handful of rwd hondas around and the majority are rear engine.It would probably be less cutting and welding to build a firewall and mount a engine.subframe in the back.

rwd civic would be nice but a small block would kill the handling, I would go with something lighter and smaller like a buick all aluminium 215 v8, then turbo it. Stay with a ifs rear end like a newer t bird with the 8.8 and you would have a killer little car 8)
