There is a very important fundamental difference. You are correct that O is much more reactive than O2 but what you failed to realize is that at standard temp. and pressure two O atoms bind to form O2.
Basically what i am getting as is nothing "runs" on water. You can put a ---- ton of energy INTO the water and get something that will give you LESS energy in return.

The main emissions of a car engine are:
* Nitrogen gas (N2) - Air is 78-percent nitrogen gas, and most of this passes right through the car engine.
* Carbon dioxide (CO2) - This is one product of combustion. The carbon in the fuel bonds with the oxygen in the air.
* Water vapor (H2O) - This is another product of combustion. The hydrogen in the fuel bonds with the oxygen in the air.

I saw one of those HHO supplement systems installed on this guy's Chevy truck at a car show. From what I saw he hd the thing making the gas, and was simply piping it into the intake tube before the throttle body.
The whole thing seemed sketchy, especially since their "kits" were anywhere from $400 to $1200.

If I drive 20 miles a day, I shouldn't need to use any fuel. I should be able to run off of battery only and just recharge at night. We should only use fuel when we NEED it, ie when you are driving distances or can't charge up. The second thing we need to do is change our fuel source. Ethanol is a great choice. Ethanol from corn is a terrible choice. We should be only making ethanol from plants where we have a POSITIVE yeild rather than a negative yeild which is the current situation with corn. Sugar, switch grass, and a number of other plants all work well to do this.
Changing our way of making electricity, ie using nuclear, geothermal, solar, wind, ect and making smart ethanol would easily buy us 50+ years until we can figure out hydrogen or whatever would work best. Hydrogen in theory is great because of the zero emissions and all of that crap, but having zero emissions but burning a ---- ton of coal to make the hydrogen is not a wise choice. There is no reason why this stuff has to be so difficult. There are solutions that work all around the world that could easily work for us. We have so many natural resources at our finger tips and arguably the best human resources available. Talking about powering millions of cars with hydrogen in 10 years is just such a complete joke that it makes my brain hurt.

i think the argument is more for long trips. i would be happy with 200miles a charge but think of your electric bill at the end of the month, then agian you could always steal electricity from you neighbor just run a cord to his/her house
