What do others contribute to their 401K and what does your employer match, if any? I contribute 5% of my paycheck + 4% match from my employer.

Also I would not have too much money invested in the company you work for. What happens if they take a ----, you have no job and your investment goes to ----. Also the financials are fucked right now, also you shouldn't have more than like 1/4 of your investments in a single stock.
ps I don't know ---- so don't listen to me

Precious metals are a long-term investent. If you have $100k layin around and want to secure your retirement, invest in gold, or platinum. These are damn near guaranteed.
As for me, I can take my $$$ in my 401(k) and flip it daily. Granted, I took a loss w/ some ---- earlier this year, but I'm in a profit margin now.. No more loss! I check my investments and stocks daily. If you want to make fast money, I assure you it takes patience and effort.. I mean to watch ----. You can't throw your $$ somewhere adn expect it to double overnight. (Yes, I know there are some that do.. But what are the chances?)

granted nickel is somewhat of a newcomer to the market it can only increase in value w/ almost every auto manufacturer building hybrids now. invest now and then once lithium starts to take off pull out what you have made and then buy massive amounts of gold

I wonder if a single person here works a job in relation to actual investing or trading, or withing 10 miles of the stock market? :1
I'm hearing a lot of tripe from people who live in trailers in this thread.

gold has ups/downs but it a helluva lot more stable than "the market."
I guess investing in the market alone instead of individual stocks is also safe, but gold's material value will always be higher than the paper value of currency...

If I notice a large decline, I transfer it to a stable fund. If Wachovia goes under, FDIC covers retirement accts for $250k. I have nowhere near that in there...

If you notice a large decline, chances are high someone else knew it was going to happen beforehand, and by time you get your funds moved...they're already worthless.
