What do others contribute to their 401K and what does your employer match, if any? I contribute 5% of my paycheck + 4% match from my employer.
I contribute 11% now. Wachovia matches up to 6% of my annual salary. The benefit to me, is the match up to 6% fo what I will make in the year, not base pay. So, if I make $40k, and put in $4k, the match that w/ $2400. So, my $4k investment nets $6400 plus raise in stock price and interest earned.

Also I would not have too much money invested in the company you work for. What happens if they take a ----, you have no job and your investment goes to ----. Also the financials are fucked right now, also you shouldn't have more than like 1/4 of your investments in a single stock.

ps I don't know ---- so don't listen to me
#1. If the company takes a ----, I'm screwed.. BUT, people who want to make money, monitor this ---- like they schedule haircuts. Daily, I watch the stock rise. Granted, there may be a few days of a decline, but it always goes back up. As of now, w/ a new CEO, I believe our stock will continue to climb. Keep in mind, we're no small bank. Another good thing is.. if for some reason Wachovia goes under, my investments are guaranteed by FDIC, guy! If I notice a large decline, I transfer it to a stable fund. If Wachovia goes under, FDIC covers retirement accts for $250k. I have nowhere near that in there...

Precious metals are a long-term investent. If you have $100k layin around and want to secure your retirement, invest in gold, or platinum. These are damn near guaranteed.

As for me, I can take my $$$ in my 401(k) and flip it daily. Granted, I took a loss w/ some ---- earlier this year, but I'm in a profit margin now.. No more loss! I check my investments and stocks daily. If you want to make fast money, I assure you it takes patience and effort.. I mean to watch ----. You can't throw your $$ somewhere adn expect it to double overnight. (Yes, I know there are some that do.. But what are the chances?)

granted nickel is somewhat of a newcomer to the market it can only increase in value w/ almost every auto manufacturer building hybrids now. invest now and then once lithium starts to take off pull out what you have made and then buy massive amounts of gold

I wonder if a single person here works a job in relation to actual investing or trading, or withing 10 miles of the stock market? :1

I'm hearing a lot of tripe from people who live in trailers in this thread.

HEY MINE IS DUBBLE WIDE

gold has ups/downs but it a helluva lot more stable than "the market."

I guess investing in the market alone instead of individual stocks is also safe, but gold's material value will always be higher than the paper value of currency...

No GUY we are talking about you stocks since you say that 90% of your investment is in Wachovia stock, therefore your investments are not guaranteed by the FDIC Guy. That bank could go under tomorrow and you could have nothing, and the FDIC and all the intelligent investors would laugh at you for having your investments in the compnay you work for. Also keep i nmind Indymac was no small bank guy.

WAT?

If you notice a large decline, chances are high someone else knew it was going to happen beforehand, and by time you get your funds moved...they're already worthless.
