Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

Ok, so I started tearing crap off yesterday for my new ACT clutch, everything is starting to come off easy, I"m like "this is a first", then I get to my drive shafts, and I CAN"T get my spindle nuts off for anything, so now I have to wait until next weekend to get a air ratched socket that won't crack on me, man I"m pissed. I havn't even had a change to take it out this year yet!, and after I get my clutch done, I'm going to Uberdata which might take another two weeks! sucks!!!

u dont need to remove ur axles
just pop off ur balljoints and twist it open
works fine

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

and theres a manual in the hybrid section (92-95civic) and it tells u step by step how to do it the right way ;)

I bought an entire set of metric Impact sockets for $20 from a local discount tool store. (like Harbor Freight) Just go buy a set and get your car done.

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

get a ball joint fork and split both upper and lower balljoints off the hub
one u release the ball joints u cant open the hub like a door and that makes enough clearance for u to remove the tranny with the axle still attached to the hub

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

Sometimes the ball joints are a bitch to get apart if you dont have the fork tool. So...Unbolt the lower control arm and strut from the arm. That too will give you plenty of clearence. I have found this to be the easiest and fastest way at the track. I even had to swap a tranny out between rounds. 1 hour 10 minutes full trans swap on my back with hand tools jack stands, a chain and a 2x4 supporting the engine lol!! (95 hatch)

i just pop the lower one and unbolt the strut fork....if i can remember right, ive done it different ways

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

yeah man definetly just pop off the lower ball joint and pull the hub back, you be able to slip it right out of there.

just get one of these---> http://rds.yahoo.com/S=96062883/K=ba...arater_150.jpg and pound on that fucker till it breaks loose

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

Clutches are cake, If I remember right you can just pop the upper balljoint, undo the strut, and pull the spindle far enough to get the axle out

I can always get mine off. I just use a breaker bar and put a 6ft piece of pipe on there. Plenty of force on it then.

why dont you guys just hit the lower control arm near the lower ball joint with like a 5lb hammer, dont really need a pickle fork (i prefer one) but same thing with the upper ball joint, Just hit the knuckle around where the upper bj bolts in... eventually they loosen up, like spensers mom

i use a 20 foot fence pole with a ratched put into the end of it to axle nuts off. talk about mad torque

hotrex 04-30-2005 03:46 PM

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

i usually stand on a breaker bar to get \mine loose.

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

the only thing is, when I use a breaker bar, it just turns my axle, even when it's in gear, hum, just thought of this, stupid me, I could have someone step on the break, GOSH I'm dumb!!!

impact owns all.

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

taking the nut off the axle should be one of the FIRST things you do, on the ground, with the wheel on esp if you dont have a good impact, just pound that homo tab out of the way that you smash down so the nut wont turn and stick a huge breaker bar on that shyt

its easy to change a clutch in a honda, try doin it in a camaro or a RWD car, with a ------ 150lb transmission. now that is a bitch

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

you can't take the spindle nut off with my rims on, it covers it up. I have an impact gun, but My friend who has the 1 1/4 socket is gone this weekend, and I alreay tried a non impact gun socket and craked it. I'll work on it next weekend.

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

i did it on my old S10, I could put the tranny out in 45 mins, not bad at all.

thats what i do, and it works every time, then you can take the hole hub assembly off with the half-shaft connected.(if you remove the caliper)

or you could put it in gear and have someone hold the break, while you use a breaker bar to get it off. that nut should not be the hardest part of the install. the hardest part for me was getting the tranny back on, and finding a socket to fit the preasure plate.

BTW what act did you get??

pa2play 05-01-2005 02:32 PM

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

I got the ACT clutch kit part# HC5-HD00
nothing too big or overkill, rated to hold up to 224 lbs torque, and I dont even have 200, so it should be good, so don't every one diss me for not getting some huge racing clutch, my civic isn't a freakin race car!

scottsi 05-01-2005 03:14 PM

Re: Replacing clutch is a son of a !!

i had that clutch, i made around 160lbs of torque, and 6 thousand miles later it was burned to hell, full throttle shifts OWN weak clutches, so dont FTS it if you want it to last
