recovery tank issues
 

I just put a two-core radiator in and the bastard will not suck the coolant back when it cools.
I have run brand new hose to it, hose clamped it and bought a new radiator cap.

This thing will not pull back coolant for anything.
Any advice will help.

I have this same problem, but I have a brand new pump and thermostat. I'm thinking about going air cooled like the old VW's. ;)

Dont over look the obvious. A friend of mine(ASE master mechanic)had this same problem on his car, turns out the hose inside the coolant jug was a little to long and was sealing it self off against the bottom of the jug. I have seen this problem a lot because of splits in the pick up tube above the water line, or the cap to the coolant jug stoped up with gunk. Take the hose off your radiator and suck on it (I know, yuck) you should be able to suck coolant out with no problems.

I have it isolated to the cap being the problem, but both my original cap and the new cap actually hold pressurewhen it cools down. Hell, this morning I was hoping to see less coolant in the recovery tank. After 12 hours of sitting over night, the stupid radiator still had pressure. >:( I hope this is an obvious problem. If I knew exactly how the radiator cap funtions, then I could continue troubleshooting. I called the people that distribute the radiators, but they just sell radiators, not the caps.

So my question is: what do you guys think is keeping the pressure inside the radiator? Maybe the plunger being too compressed or not compressed enough?
