reconstructed title

Does a reconstructed/salvage title raise insurance costs, or just the sale value? I'm thinking about buying a car with one and heard conflicting stories. I just want to get this strait before I buy it.

i think your best bet would be to call an insurance company for that one ;)

also, it wont "raise" selling cost. Should be cheaper.

Re:reconstructed title

if it was just a salvage title it would be higher insurance maybe but since its written down thats its been reconstructed and if it passes inspection it should be fine

WRONG

Vehicles with Salvage titles are ineligible for full coverage. Best you can get is liability, or PIP depending on what state you're in. The cost to insure a vehicle with liability is the same whether your title is regular or salvaged. If your vehicle has been recertified by the DMV to be non-salvage, then the resale value may increase and you should be able to purchase full coverage if you want it.

Really? I had a salvage hatch and I was gonna get full coverage for it, but it was too much money (not cause it was salvage, cause of my record :'()

that really depends on the state and company you get your insureance from. every car i have rebuilt with a salvage title was elgable for full coverage. the insureance company hardly ever checks the title with the 100000's of people they are scamming out of money.

Re:reconstructed title

take the title to nevada and re-title it CLEAN.

first you find an address then say you lost the title and filled out a lost title form and put you're new address where ever you live.

You can get good deals buying car with a salvage title. Like my stealth TT.

The insurance company "totalled it" b/c an "under the hood fire". The truth was discovered by me.

Owner doesn't change timing belt on a car he bought for $24K. Timing belt breaks. owner tries to replace timing belt, but its too late, the valves are bent. He sets a small "under the hood fire", but puts it out before it damages ANYTHING. Then he calls the insurance company and says " I was driving, the car shut off, and under the hood caught on fire, now the car won't start". Insurance company calls the local mistu dealer that says " come-on by, its $83 per hours work on the bitch !!!". Insurance company hits it with a "salavge stamp".

I could have bought the car for $3000, put a week of work into it and about $500 and got a $6000 car outta it. BUT NO I had to go spend $4K on parts and then spend the last 16months waiting on them !!.

Also I could have parted the drivetrain out for more than $3000...

The damn point is that the car was "totalled", but not really. It was just "broke down".

I bet insurance companies total EF civic/crx all the time for minor fender breakers ( are fenders don't really bend ).

Don't quite get this. You find some address in NV and then fill out a form and send that to your house (for me cali)? ??? I'm lost.

hahaha funny you say that. Buddy of mine had some fender, bumper and hood damage on his civic and claimed insurance, stamped with the salvage label.
