Default Rant for the day

I have just realized that us hardcore turbo guru's are few and far between, I just came back from presenting my research essay that was on VATN turbo technology to a class of regular college students. I began with the basics of turbocharging, the very basics. How the turbo works, exhaust spinning fan and all that jive. I went on to explain A/R ratios and its definition, and how the VATN doesnt need a wastegate because it can control its own turbine speed with adjusting the A/R. Anyway, at the end, I asked "Are there any questions?" The class looks totally puzzled and one guy says, "so, like, it doesnt need a blow off valve?"....Needless to say, I probably failed the presentation hardcore

Anyway, i was just wondering if any of you have ever tried to do something like this, or talk to anyone about turbochargers, and they know nothing. Dont get me wrong,I dont think im Corky Bell, but you know what I mean

I explained to my physics class how a turbo worked, I brought in my turbo and I spun one side while I showed the class the other side spinning. I thought that was advanced enough for them so I didn't even bother with waste gates, bovs and any of that other crap.

you have to explain things in more simple terminology.

example: a combustion engine works like this- suck squeeze bang blow.

suck is the intake, squeeze is the compression, bang is the combustion, blow is the exhaust.

most people who you try to explain something they don't have interest in will just ignore whatever it is you're saying. you can explain it and it looks like they're listenning but it's just going in one ear and out the other.
