Quick release Steering Wheel Hubs?

Well 3 people I know in the last week have had their cars stolen. My CRX is a rotted piece of crap but the FMIC is easily seen and Hotrex lost his hatch and it was bucket too. I want to do everything I can to keep my little car. Kill switches, alarm, and other things are going to be installed but I saw the quick release hubs and thought, you can't steal it if you can't steer it. Obviously I know if someone wants it bad enough they will figure out a way but it may be a good option for the not so diligent thief. I intend on doing all the body work and some wheels soon so I would like to keep the car for a while. I am painting the FMIC black and going to put some black mesh in front of it.

Anyone have one currently?
Does it move the wheel back too far?

Any thoughts on the matter of theft deterrents would be helpful.

Dave

dave if you worried about it getting stolen, that would work, make sure when you get an alarm that you get a hood pin and put it on the fire wall along with putting the alarm unit itslef somewhere other than next tot he fuse box, i suggest behind the glove box if theres room. also they make these little second batteries that are really small, so if they do pop the hood and undo the battery the alarm will still stay on. i have one and so do all my friends. also get an LED cause most theifs wont mess with it if they see that. i have watched plenty of people walk up to my car and see if the doors were unlocked or just look inside. its funny then i just hit the panic button and make my alarm go off. lol.

even with a quick release they can use like a vise grip to steer, if your going to get a quick release i suggest buying the lock also ;)

All great info. Thanks for all the suggestions Jordan. I will get to work on all of it. I really don't have any money into the car but if I keep working on it and it got stolen I would be very upset. Are any brand of alarms superior to others?

My buddy has a Viper alarm on his. He has a smaller motorcycle battery to power it, and he hid everything except for the speaker behind the firewall. He put the speaker way in there so you can't see it, and it's loud as hell. Somebody tried to break in, cut the main power, but sure enough was detered by the second battery.

I'm going to get a quick release steering wheel, keep my alarm, and remove my ECU every time I park the car for a longer length of time.

I had one, it only puts the a wheel a little further out. Nothing you'd really notice but I got rid of it since it was a hassle taking it off and on.
