Question

I was just talking to Onyx about AWD vs FWD. Traction and what not is the major difference. Also i was thinkin about downforce ont he front of a FWD car will allow it to get better traction. Couldnt you just add weight to the front?
and another thing i want everyones opinion, who would win FWD OR AWD? lets just remove the driver to eliminate the variable that goes along with it like reaction time and how they shift and what not.

Re:Question

I would say AWD if both cars had equal amounts of power.

Re:Question

its not really that theres not enough weight on the front, just that the weight tranfer automatically takes the weight off the tires...thats why real fast fwd's use wheelie bars. ive owned awd and fwd...i think i like fwd more, but the awd was a fat ass 3000gt so i guess my opinion is skewed.

Re:Question

AWD in my opinion...lots of power with FWD makes for smokey burnouts, unless maybe you have a LSD or have welded your stock differential....

Re:Question

I think in the quarter mile an awd would win but in a longer distance the fwd might catch up because with awd you've got more of a drivetrain loss so if the engines produce the same power then the fwd will actually get more power to the wheels. IMO

Re:Question

repeated hard launching in an awd car=broken parts. More traction = better times too.

Re:Question

fwd is ok for a daily driver, but i would rather have awd. if you're building lots of power rwd is great.

Watch this video. It'a a 10 second Turbo dodge K-Car. The way he gets such amazing traction is by using air shocks in the back. Right before the race he pumps them up in order to transfer more of the weight over the front wheels. You'll see in the video that the K-car leaves the supra in the dust at the begining because it has such good traction, but the Supra starts to hang with him towards the end.
