I have a PSP and it's awesome. You better hope that the PSP you get is version 2.00 or under. Anything above 2.00 and you are screwed. They can't run homebrew and they can't be downgraded.

You can download games isos and run them right off the memory stick if you have enough room. It kicks ass. I downloaded this torrent that was about 13 gigs and it had 35 PSP games. It'll keep me busy for a while. go to www.pspupdates.com for every bit of information there is about hacking the PSP and running homebrew. I have a 2 gig memory stick so I can fit about 4 PSP games, some music, a full length movie, and a bunch of homebrew apps on it. There are lots of little things you can do to improve the PSP also. One thing I did was remove the crappy analog pad that comes with the PSP and replace it with a trackpad cap (you know, the thing in the middle of the keyboard on some laptops that you move the mouse around with). It greatly improves accuracy and sensitivity. Here's a couple quick pics of what it looks like now.. it functions much better

Feel free to ask me if you have any questions. There is quite a bit of info out there for you to learn about the PSP. It's really an amazing device.

Go to the far left menu, then choose system settings.

Then choose system information and it will tell you which firmware you have. It will say "system software" then your version. Let me know what you have.

DO NOT UPGRADE TO 2.6!!!

You will not be able to run homebrew or anything that Sony doesn't want you to, and you cannot downgrade. You have 1.52, that is great. You can do nothing on 1.52 because sony patched a bunch of stuff and homebrew doesn't work. So what you want to do is download the 2.0 update from www.pspupdates.com. Upgrade to 2.0. Then with a program call the "mph downgrader" you can downgrade to 1.50, which is the holy grail of homebrew firmwares. You're in good shape, just don't upgrade to 2.6!

The only bad thing is that 1.5 doesn't have a built in web browser but there are ways around that. And you can't run GTA or Socom on 1.5, but you can always upgrade to 2.0 for those and then downgrade back to 1.5 to play homebrew games and :gasp: isos that you've downloaded. Start reading up on the forums at pspupdates, there is a howto on using the mph downgrader. Let me know if ya need more help.

well i went out n bought 2 games, need for speed most wanted and madden 06... it required me to update to 2.0 to play the games so i did... graphics are ------ awesome but i also want to run all those emulators... they dont have any emulators for 2.0 yet? i dont wanna go back n forth when playing games, its annoying. i read the how-to downgrade n it seems so unsafe for the system. "its gonna crash, force off, power on... it'll update til about 90% then crash again" that doesn't sound safe for the psp lol... n i dont even have a big mem card yet... i wish there was emulators for 2.0 so i could jus stay on it.

The downgrader is based on an exploit, and was never meant to be by Sony. That's why the process to use it is a little funky. Just follow the steps and you have nothing to worry about. You won't damage your PSP.

You can run NFS:MW on 1.5 just fine, I do it all the time. Madden may require 2.0 though, never played it. I hate sports video games except for racing.

If that is the case (2.0 being required for Madden) then you can still run *some* homebrew on version 2.0 with a program called "eboot loader" made by Fanjita. There is an entire forum dedicated to this program on www.pspupdates.com Check it out. Basically it uses the same tiff exploit that the mph downgrader uses but it allows you to run some homebrew. I know there are a few emulators that work on it such as SNES, NES, Genesis, etc.

Anywhere that has an unsecured wireless access point. Or you know the password. So yea, you can take it to places that have wifi available to the public (Starbucks, your neighbors wifi connection) and you can get online.

Re: PSP Thoughts? positiblities? tips n tricks?

well i just successfully downgraded to 1.5... the reason why i said i needed it for NFS:MS was cuz i just bought it, i just put it in and tried to run it on 1.52 and it said 2.0 is required. n wont load... oh well. ill try madden n see what happens. i lost my browser and my option to set whatever background i wanted. ill play with the emulators n if i like it ill jus keep going back n forth lol. unless that eboot loader by fanjita works enough to use atleast the snes, nes, and genesis atleast then ill go back to 2.0... ill just read up on that site, i keep getting lost on that site lol

Yea it really is a great site thought once you get used to it. The only other PSP site I go to is www.psp3d.com

Yes you lose the built in browser when downgrading to 1.5, but you can still use a custom wallpaper. It's just not built in ;) Download the program called PSPPersonalize and you can have custom wallpaper on your 1.5 firmware.

how stable is the fanjita eboot loader? i can't even locate the newest download for 0.9... but if its pretty stable for using emu's then i just wanna use 2.0firmware so i can keep the browser n play the newer games as well... what emu's can i use with eboot loader?

Re: PSP Thoughts? positiblities? tips n tricks?

Here's a thread that discusses working homebrew with the 2.0 eboot loader:
http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?t=21186

I'm not sure about version 0.9 but 0.85 will work for everything you need.

A list of the homebrew that I use (on 1.5, some may not work on 2.0 with the loader):

Squarez
AOTM
PSPRadio-this prog rocks. Lets you stream music to your PSP from a shoutcast server.
Fastloader =D (what I use to load isos, will definitely not work with the eboot loader)
Sudoku v2.0
PSP Revolution
Snes9xTYL
MPH firmware launcher (so I can use the web browser)
PSP-OSS (probably won't work on 2.0)

To convert video to a PSP compatible mpeg4 video file, I use PSPVideo9. I will never buy a UMD movie, what a waste of money, usually the extras are ripped out due to the UMD capacity of only 1.8 GB and you can only watch it on your PSP. Just rip the movie from your DVD or download it, then convert to PSP format.

And I also recommend getting a trackpoint cap to replace your analog pad. It works and feels so much better.
Get one that fits a Dell at www.trackcap.com and tell him jagojon sent you ;)

well i didn't like how 1.5 looked... seem'd so out of date so 2.0 it was... got the eboot loader by fanjita and this thing owns. works well on the snes and genesis emulator as long as you have frame skip on auto and over clock the speed to 333mhz... the browser owns... the 2.0 settings own... and i can continue to own some GTA: Liberty City Stories in the palm of my hand lol... what else is this thing capable of jago

Re: PSP Thoughts? positiblities? tips n tricks?

I've heard so much about GTA and the general concensus is that it's by far the best PSP game out. I really want to get it but I will lose all my iso playing priveliges :( Guess I should quit being a bitch and buy the games.

Other things it can do hmm... have you gotten PSP Radio? that rocks. It can't quit give you a bj yet...
I can't think of other stuff offhand, just read through all of the forums for a few hours and you'll know. You're soooo lucky you didn't upgrade to 2.6, I'm glad I caught you before that happened.

Get a Logitech Playgear Pocket, it's a kickass case for the PSP and you can also customize it with whatever graphics you want.

Re: PSP Thoughts? positiblities? tips n tricks?

yeah, thank god i didn't upgrade to 2.6... i was so close cuz i thought it was needed since it downloaded that version by its self. 2.0 aint bad. get most of the iso's and have fun with genesis or snes... i think its awesome. so far im freakin like inlove with the psp lol. it has yet to let me down on its posibilities... thanks for the help jago.

Never used it, but the updates are:

- Added wifi support! Now the loader auto-detects if the wifi libraries are loaded (via the wifi load method above) and offers them to homebrew for use.
- Added call to application exit callback, to allow RIN etc. to save state when L+R+START reset is used.
- Added memory reset after running the menu. This should make things much less sensitive to whatever has been run before them. Can be turned off in config.
- Added memory reset on exit - this might make it easier to restart the loader.
- Added config option to fake success code from unknown functions
- Added clock-speed option to the config file, to allow automatic overclocking / underclocking of applications.
