PSP?

Well it's been a week since it's release and I am somewhat surprised that no thread has been made, so I will make one. ;D

Any of you guys picked one up? I got mine, well a couple (supply and demand will up the price soon enough, just waiting for that time ;)).

I haven't bought any games cause I can't afford one. But I did watch Spiderman 2 on it and it looks amazing! I was watching th movie on the PSP and the TV was on too, well that dinky PSP blows my sorry TV away big time.

So yeah, anyone else snag one?

Then again Sony didn't market it like the PS2.

Well here's a pic of one.

Lemme give u a tip on electronics.
The price only goes down.
I know cuz i sell them all the time. ;)
its not like gold

Re: PSP?

you do know that when the PS2 came out people were buying them for 1000+ dollars right?

the time will come for the PSP, but I have theories on it's semi-success compared to the success of the PS2, but I won't go into that. :P

Re: PSP?

They are supposed to be sold out in the nation, so you might be able to get some more $$$ soon. :cough:ebay:cough:, might be a good place to start, maybe sell it to some canadians or latin america if they didn't get it yet for more $$$ paypal only ;)

I didn't get one, but prices on game consoles do not go down. It's pretty much a set price until 2 or 3 years pass by, then they drop it $50 or so, then another $50 when it gets old.

This kinda looks like the ngage or whatever from nokia, but better and no phone right? It has a lot of support being made by sony and the playstation name.

Re: PSP?

yup I'm just riding it out a little, will hit eBay soon enough.

It's seriously a sweet system, a little overpriced but damn nice. Nice bright crisp screen. They will have movies for it so it's pretty much better than a portable dvd player, more compact. You could also upload movies to the memory card, so you nut squashers can upload porn into it and watch it while waiting at the DMV :D

Really cool features, but only one's I cared for are movies and games, and I only have one of the two cause it came with the console :P

J-MAN 03-31-2005 09:38 AM

Re: PSP?

i think they look pretty cool but i don't know about paying $250 or whatever they cost and then another $40 for games you already have on the PS2 or dvd's. guess i would feel differant if i used my PS2 more but the games are way too expensive for my broke ass. :(

Re: PSP?

I never purchased a ps2 because of the game prices and having no time on life for it. ---- even the PS2 is sold out here in Orlando. I actually tried for a little while to buy a new one when GT4 came out, and could not find one. I gave up and bought car parts.

davcivic 03-31-2005 10:07 AM

Re: PSP?

I understand that they would sell out on christmas, but they are sold out right now still. The guy said they get like 20 units or less a week and they sell out the first day.

They should have released the psp on christmas

Re: PSP?

I feel PS2's success also had to do a lot with advertising. How many months before the ps2 launch date did you see commercials for the PS2? A good 6 months.

I seriously think that on Sony's part, because of the overwhelming success and money that people made off their system from selling on eBay they decided to keep the PSP somewhat on the down low. I still haven;t seen a tv commercial for it and I have only seen one poster on the side of the bus advertising it.

I also do not play my PS2, I bought it brand new two years ago and my little brother calls it his own. Practically is, he uses it more than I do. I may have played it only a couple hours before I practically gave it to him.

The PSP launch here in the states wasn't nearly as big as it was in Japan. Some places that ordered 80 units for the launch ended up having 70 or so left. They are still available in a lot of places, I don't see the price going up for it ever.

Re: PSP?

Got mine the first day it came out! I bought mine the smart way, had it preordered. I payed $20 down and every now and then made $15-30 payments till it came out. By the time is was relesed(last thursday) I only owed $14 so I also had money to buy a game. Wipeout Pure is ------- BOSS. I recomend if you like the racing genre, nice soundtrack too! ;) The ------- graphics on this thing are sick. W/ the USB conection, I wouldnt be surprised if some one incorpirated this in the auto tuning market, Like TurboXs did w/ the game boy advance. Nology also did sumtin w/ the Palm pilot. Either way Im happy w/ my purchase. Git one if you can but be prepared to spend sum dough.

i'm gonna wait and see what kind of support it gets. if they come out with a lot of games and movies on umd it would be worth it. if they could get gt4 on it i'd pick one up!

Video Games are for 10 year olds ::)

AgentMurdoc 03-31-2005 09:12 PM

Re: PSP?

Gt will be coming out for it.

As far as the discs are concerned, they are like mini discs, it's like a mini disc in a case, like how a floppy has a disc in the case.

The discs are called UMD (universal media disc I think). I have a feeling Sony is going to try and phase out the DVDs. Example they will make UMD players for your home system. Perhaps they are trying to optimize their profits by creating a media that wouldn't be easily bootlegged.

oh and jago, I blame the lack of success of the PSP on lack of advertisement as I stated above. PS2 was advertised months in advance prior to the release date, whereas the PSP had pretty much none. It'll take off.

and yeah games are for 10 year olds, now get back into your jumperoo before I call mommy on you :-*
now go off and boingy boingy.

Re: PSP?

How much are movies on this thing? I heard a rumor that these mini disc movies were like, $40 or something. It kinda sounds like a rip-off to me. Can you play them in a normal DVD player? Would they have the same extra features?

A buddy of mined picked one up and I played NFS Underground on it, as well as watched some Spider Man. He also had some pictures that he got off his computer as well. I was pretty damn impressed with the graphics and sound and wouldn't mind having one, but it still feels like a novelty item to me, especially at the price its at (probably because I'm seeing it as both an alternative portable dvd player and console).

Re: PSP?

yea. i rather buy new rims and tires then spend money on this right now. i'm just going to wait 5 months or so then think about buying one.

Re: PSP?

I basically bought them for the sole purpose of trying to make a profit on them. At launch things didn't work out as planned, but I still have hopes for it, we'll see what happens in a couple weeks.

I'm also told you can upload movies onto the memory card and watch it on the PSP, so there is an alternative to buying the movie discs they have.

movies are like 700-800 MB when coded w/DivX or something similar. The memory cards hold 512 mb max I believe, so it's not totally feasible just yet, unless I'm wrong about how large the memory cards are. I did however hear that you can burn mini-discs and watch movies that way? You'd still need two probably, but that's another option I suppose.

Re: PSP?

there is a way to compress the movie and make it work. I'll have to look it up again, but it is very feasible.

I don't think just using a mini disc would work. You seen the cartridge the games come in right? if they make cases like that you can buy, then we can start bootlegging ----.

Hmm... well then, that changes some :P . I have seen the cartridges, I kinda assumed they were interchangeable? I didn't know you needed both the disc and cartridge for it to work.

The internet, and movies, have already been hacked on the PSP.

Re: PSP?

sucks because sony made a specialized cd type disc for it called UMD.

they should have made it a hair bigger to use DVDs. it would have been much more appealing to non-gamer-types
