Project: Random Strike ::Pics:: (updated)

When I first met johnny, he had plans on turbocharing his 1g crx. Well, things didnt go through and he never ended up doing it. Then came along his Integra and last summer he was almost about done with it, and then bailed again. So Finally Johnny has gathered enough ---- to get his car running and all the stuff for his turbo setup. Plan was "lets meet at your work at 11:30am".... 12:00 still no johnny, Finally Dave lee shows up (doing some OBD0 love to johnnys pr4) .... still waiting for johnny 1:00, then 1:30 he finally rolls in.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...strike/rs3.jpg

Nothing like removing a nice hot manifold after the car was just driven for 2 1/2 hours, haha. While me and johnny were working on putting the turbo setup on. Dave was chipping the ecu and putting a turbo pr4 map on. (maybe he has pics of that I dunno)

Tuner Toyz oil return fitting makes things very easy, Thanks craig ;D

Since johnny forgot to bring a flange for his downpipe, and any mandrel bends. Beau came buy to give us a hand. Beau had 3 extra mandrels, and he took over on the downpipe project. Here is beau making the custom flange.

I was busy working on the Charge pipes, I found a nice AEM cold air intake (2.5 aluminum) in the dumpster at a local performance shop. Had some really nice bends in it, so I used it on Johnnys IC piping.

Home Depot Connectors for IC piping

Jesus christ, talk about a tranny leak hahah, There was ------- fluid all over underneith johnnys car, He had previously tried fixing it with some JB weld on the case halfs of the tranny.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs13.jpg

lol, My guess would still be that axle seal.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs14.jpg

The oil return,

Note shown, but you can see that it would be almost impossible to put a wastegate actuator inbetween the comressor housing and block. There was just no way it would fit with the internal setup, or how the manifold was designed. So, I made a little bracket and mounted the wastegate actuator to the block, Then we used a drum brake spring to attach to the flapper (josh ross style) lol

Piecing the DP together

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs16.jpg

lil chop saw action

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs19.jpg

Downpipe all done, came out really good, driving open DP for now, he needs all new exhaust.

Wait a min.... I think we forgot something, ???

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs17.jpg

This momment was brought to you by Rockstar energy drink

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs18.jpg

The Patent Beau Garrison DP Cock Shot rofl, since the DP was already in the car we didnt want to take it back out. Beau hanging from the lower control arms upside down while the car was on the rack to get this picture.. LOL, Johnny was holding him up, I should of got the picture of johnnys nose in beaus ass, classic hahahah

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs20.jpg

Things came together pretty quick. Johnny showed me and beau what a flat rate boost gauge install ment. (under the hood, through the fender to the dash, haha. Nice john

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs21.jpg

Alot of people ask this, Why is my ---- steaming when I first start it up! this is very common, all the greese from your hands touching the manifold is all burning off. So dont freak out and think its exhaust, it just needs a couple heating cycles and your fine.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs22.jpg

The penis pump in use! Johnny had to pump up fluid in his tranny every 50 miles haha, fix the leak!

I forgot to take pictures of the engine bay, but I'm sure johnny will take some today. Johnny and Beau went out and test drove it first.. They come back and the car is running like complete ----. So then I take it for a spin, It seemed to me it was something in the ignition system, Pulled the cap and rotor, looked like ----, just cleaned the terminals. Popped a new set of plugs in and a another set of plug wires and she ran smooth as ever. Next problem was our home depot 90 degree bend we used off the compressor housing that melted a hole in it. We stopped by beaus work and fixed that real quick with some radiator hose. WG seems to be opening way early (and possibly due to my external mount job) right at 3-4psi. We upped the boost with a HMT Vac T stage 1 boost controller and got it sitting good at 7-9psi.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs23.jpg

Yet another classic HMT meal @ Dennys.

Thanks Beau for helping with the DP & thanks Dave for doing the ECU.

More pics & mod list coming soon.

Jeff

As far as the start-up and first panty-ripper run video?
Sorry, no video :-\ I left early. But dont worry, I will be meeting up with Johnny for some street tuning sometime soon.

Ohh yeah, almost forgot. While cruising through the lovely city of Everette, my brother and I spotted this CRAZY 1st gen CRX lol.

Moments later he went WOT on the carbed 1.5 and showed there was more to this ride than just sweet body work...

But, even with a bad clutch, the Wago-Van didnt disapoint...lol

Thats a nice manifold. looks like it will hold up well. heh, what's that downpipe made out of? Half of it looks like it was painted exhaust pipe or something ;). I use the same oil return from Tuner Toy's and it works great! I'm just paranoid my hose clamps are going to come loose on me.

I usually answer my phone at work, unless we're insanely busy, but that doesn't happen but maybe 4 times a year.

i did a hp run with the g-tech... it said 215... and the car runs extremely rich... something it won't completly pull through a gear because its so rich... it falls on its face. but i ran through 3rd once, and it said 215

more pictures...

got exhaust put on... 2.5 piping 2.5 in/out turbo muffler. same mufflers that are on the camaro :). hard to tell the difference in acceleration between open DP and this exhaust. except its super quiet and doesn't make me look like a ricer.

boost gauge, got it for 55 dollars from a ricer shop... there was no price on it so he said 55 so i said heck yah. its autometer and one of the bigger ones, and its gel filled...

Is that fan from Pep Boys?It looks like it moves some good air.

Yeah, nice setup. What's up with the muffler? Would be nice to have a free flowing non rice sounding cheap muffler on every car.

runs pretty good if i keep it out of boost until about 4500. its too rich on the bottom and falls on its face or spudders then goes.

it feels pretty fast, faster than my chevelle was... i think its in the high 13s or 14 flat. but its hard to tell cause 1st gear is a waste and it burns off the top of second.

it seemed like it only took a couple seconds to go from 65 to 125mph... and thats with 9lbs below 5000 and around 6 or 7 above that (need to get boost controller still) its on my list :)

the muffler is great, flows really good, and it quiet. these mufflers were originally made for the turbo chevy monza corvairs. but hotrodders started using them on their cars because they flow so good and are quiet at idle. like i said before i didn't notice a difference in acceleration between open DP and this exhaust setup. i really like it...

the fan is from carquest :) it was 125 dollars it better flow good... lol and it does :)

as for the ringlands... i want it dyno tuned i dont care how much its gunna cost 8)

oohh and the tranny leak is still there... i replaced the output shaft seal and it still leaks a little bit. i need to take it out and split the case halfs and put some gasket stuff in there :(
