Project: Grassroots Blue Thunder
Well most of you saw fooks video on our last install, but here are the pics of the actual install we had a few weeks ago.
https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/b...er/hfwg5xd.jpg Starting off with the standard ported out HF manifold, using a weirRacing HF-T3 adapter plate. On the top you can see a Stainless steel 90 degree (2in elbow) was welded on mated to external Audi Wastegate. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/b...nstall24gd.jpg Using a Hybrid T3/T4, Compressor is a T04e .60 compressor, on a Tang T3 1.0 Exhaust housing (3.5outlet) https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/3.jpg Jason (fook) did all the port match work on the hf mani, and exhaust housing. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/4.jpg Beau and Tony making up the flanges https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/6.jpg Intercooler all mocked up (8in Johnny race car IC) https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/7.jpg Jason, steve, and beau working on the charge pipes, using all 2.5in mandrel bends https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/8.jpg Test fitting the TPI GM unit, with the T6 flanged Dumptruck Turbo, lol... this turbo wouldnt even spool on cadracers 283 v8 project. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/9.jpg The 3.5in downpipe was welded directly to the exhaust housing, and was obviously a bit to long. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/10.jpg So threw it in the chop saw and cut it off a little bit, to bad the blade was running low so I had to make 2 passes :-X https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/11.jpg My exhaust system ;D You can see the sweet work fook did on my oil pan, jb weld baby w/ the standard bbka 90 degree return. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/12.jpg Beau welding up charge pipes https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/13.jpg Cutting out the front bumper with the air-hacksaw...works like a charm everytime. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/14.jpg the unit assembly https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/15.jpg Dave going wtf? where are the timing marks hahha https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/16.jpg Alll done, as you can see we used the same upper IC pipe that I have used in the last 6 setups I've done.. lol, I also put a DSM BOV on the other night. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/17.jpg The intercooler came out alright, had to ---- with the IC mounting a little bit to get everything straightened out. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/2005/bluethunder/18.jpg Sporting the classic HMT sticker :) Special thanks to: Ted - for hosting the meet and letting me use several parts! thanks dude! Steve - for the audi gate and the labor!! aaron - Thanks for tha adapter plate, fit perfect Tyrus - as always the intercooler worked flawlessly Dave - chipping and tunning the car, runs perfect Beau - Doing all the welding Craig (tunertoys) - fittings/oil line kit etc, Mike - thanks for sending that clutch so fast And everyone else who helped out thanks alot! and now the stats.. 93 EG DX Hatchback OBD1 DOHC ZC (stock) Ported HF manifold Custom CNC Adapter Plate T3/T4 .60/1.00 Hybrid turbocharger Audi External Wastegate DSM 450cc injectors w/ resistor box 2.5in IC piping DSM BOV JRC 8in Intercooler 3.5in Mandrel downpipe Tunertoys Silicone Couplers / 02 bung kit Stealthmode Oil Line Kit Clutch Specialities 6puk clutch kit Running on a Chipped P74 w/ Crome 1.1.6 Hows it run? very good actually, its a tad on the laggy side but it really comes alive around 5400ish and pulls pretty dang hard to redline (especially for a stock d) I'd say its pretty dang close, if not faster than bbka's car. His car easily has more low to mid range but this thing pulls harder on the top. Its only running 9psi for now. Not trying to set world records or anything, just wanna keep it reliable and safe for my Daily Driver. video of the install (leed style) should be coming up shortly. Jeff |
