there are several of those that come to the local autocross'n in Cordele...1 or 2 have the J.R. supercharger kit on them and those cars kick some serious ***...they run like a scalded dog and sound mean as hell too...they do scream *** until u install some of those chrome rollbars/stabilizers behind the seats and throw on a nice set of rims...

They are like an LS, IMO. That's all Ari's reminded me of. Nice simple engine that does well with a little boost laid into an easy to work on RWD car.
You got the best of them by my yardstick - 94-95 NA chassis are OBD1 so you don't have to get reamed on emissions inspections, they get the 1.8 liter, and the rearend is good for almost 500 whp. The 90-91.5 1.6's have a short-nose crank that is prone to stripping keyways, and the rear end is a nancy boy.
You got the best of them by my yardstick - 94-95 NA chassis are OBD1 so you don't have to get reamed on emissions inspections, they get the 1.8 liter, and the rearend is good for almost 500 whp. The 90-91.5 1.6's have a short-nose crank that is prone to stripping keyways, and the rear end is a nancy boy.

local guy put a SR20 in a miata, making somewhere close to 500hp. shattered the rear end

Yeah, and you didn't read the thread closely:
Like I said, the 1.8 Miata rear ends are good for up to 500.
How the f....? Something ain't right here. That rearend right there has been known to take a hella lot of twist. Even when expected to move a LOT more weight. However, it is also known to blowup, like most any other rearend, with too much shock and funny angles.
