Re: Primered cars???

Umm, primer acts like a sponge when it is wet with water, it absorbs it and in the end you get rust spots. the point of paint is to protect the cars exterior shell, not only to look good.

but I guess if you live where it dosnt snow and where they dont use salt, then it shouldnt be too bad. but I'd at least clear coat the primer.

ha. some people around here use flat back as a final color. hot rod black they call it. i see it on accords alot. and u can buy spray can clear coat to. it'll help with the rust issue.

bondo is the same way it absorbs water and ends up in rust. thats why u primer over it ;)

The primer is only to fill in all the small scratches and imperfections, its basically Bondo in a can if you think about it, thats why you paint over it ;) Dont be telling me how body work works, youve got alot to learn :P I've been doing it for a long long time since I got my EF years ago. The car you see above, I made thoes 1/4 pannels and welded them in. biggest achievment for me since my first HMT setup 3 years ago.

Re: Primered cars???

cool. i went to classes for about 4 years on it. worked in the ford body shop and worked for a custom car shop moldin body kits and paintin cars. base, clear, single stage, graphics. what ever u name :). but u never know u might know more then me. i hated it with a passion thats y i don't so it anymore. plus i did body work on my last car for about 3 years straight before i finally painted it. then 2 days after it got painted someone offered cash for it and i took it. but not as much as was put into it so now. no more body work for me lol

Re: Primered cars???

Flat black paint, not actually primer, love it, had the body done on my 93 si, ran out of funds for the paint, flat black it is, looks sinister, people ask me when im gonna paint it, teh answer is im not, it gets dirty, dont care, scratched, dont care, i can find a million things better to do with the money required to get it actually painted right....car was free, i spent 400 on body, got free 16' bsa wheels with ectsa's from some parts car my uncle bought, springs from one of teh guys at the honda dealer that my dealer owns, spare d16z6 and tranny from the kid that works for me after his gsr swap. Yep, cheap ---- rules....which explains why this is my favorite place to be H.M.T kills......

yeah urban camo is sick but it can only be done on the right car. in my town there is a wrangler tha has the green black and brown camo but not as good. but when i decide that red really sucks bring on the grey prime cuz who cares anyway

Thanks, I'd like to see some pics of your ol' man's ride, pm me some pics if you get a chance! I was going to go the twin chrysler turbo route like johnny, but i decided I liked the simplicity of a single turbo set up, so I fabbed up a single turbo manifold for this one, its only got a 318 in it, but it has a few of the cop car mods done to it. Right now I'm looking at a t70 or t66 turbo, but not really sure if this is the right turbo to go with. Not making a drag car, I want it to be streetable... but still HMT respectable! any thoughts?

If people knew what kind of work it takes to get all that black primer ---- off when you actually decide to do a real paint job, they wouldn't ever do it.

Re: Primered cars???

if ur buying a car for cheap and u dont have alot of money for looks i dont see a problem with making it flat black or grey or white basic colors always look descent as long as the car is strait

Re: Primered cars???

I've been thinking about this for the hatch but not sure if I can go through with it. Gotta fix the cancer on it but since it's just my beater/daily driver it's just gonna get a tub full of bondo or some fiberglass to fill in the holes! lol.

You would paint over the primer. It is a basecoat, a foundation for color and clear for a two stage job, or just color for a single stage job. Why would you remove it?? ???

Because most of these guys are flat black primering the car without the proper body work which needs to go under it and right on top of the existing paint, so all that has to come right back off.
