pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

Ok so i have to drive 50 miles up to chris shop on saturday morning, What precautions should i take while driving. I think i'm going to disconnect the charge pip so i don't boost at all and keep it under 3500 rpms. Anything else i should do? Currenlty my Datalogger says i'm running at 11.5 pretty much across the whole map. It's rich as hell with a nice think gas cloud coming out of the exhaust. Should i try and lean it alittle, or just leave it and take it slow up there?

tow it. it doesnt take long to kill an engine if its tune incorrectly.

Even if it's not in boost? You really think it will hurt the motor driving it NA up there? I don't really see that happening at least i hape not.

Just stay out of the boost.

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

dont unhook a charge pipe. if anything, let the wg flap open (if its an internal) or just drive it easy. if youve got a decent basemap you dont really have to worry about anthing imho

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

i drove my car running like 11:1 afr's around for a bit before i tuned the base map, only thing that happened with mine was the plugs would foul out from running that rich at idle, but it would take like 100+ miles of driving before that happened, im not saying its good for it, but its not gonna blow the motor up, just drive it easy, and take along something to pull the plugs and a wire brush/ brake clean just in case they foul out on you on the drive, you'll know cause the car wont want to run, but then you just clean the plugs up, and your down the road again, not very good for the oxygen sensor either, but ---- it what else you gonna do? you'll be fine!

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

yeah i'm bringing extra plugs with me. I'm running a stock p30 basemap adjusted to my 550's. I do have an internal gate. So my best bet would be to lossen up the adjust screw to it's stuck open so boost doesn't build. My motor is completely built from top to bottom with forged items. I was gonna get it towed, but AAA doens't tow on the NJ parkway because it's contraced out thought the state to only certain towers, Ad i also promised chris i would be there no later then 8am and god knows that tow trucks aren't exactly timely.

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

I'd just unhook the wastegate (if internal) and baby it up there...but thats just me. If it's external just stay out of boost.

Really? Maybe they were just trying to hustle me, When i throw the #4 rod out of my old block i called and they said it could one be 1 of three places, but this was almost 2 years ago. Maybe AAA is now part of the scam the state has going on.

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

You're not going to blow it up running 11:1 NA, just drive it up there....

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

tow it!!!!!

run to lean and break ----.

run to rich and wash down cylinders.

out of boost, you should be no richer than 13.1 or there wil be extra fuel soaking the cylinder walls.

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

yeah leave the waste gate open

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

Well i'm running in the 11's but that is the reading off of the stock O2, I haven't hooked up my LC-1 yet because chris said he would help me iwth it because i don't know what the voltage setting should be in freelog, Also when i have my wideband hooked up and running, i need to kill the O2 sensor on my bin right?

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

i have to agree with everyone, just baby it, and leave the wastegate open

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

yeah i'm going to drive like an old lady up there, i'm going to try and keep it under 3.8k rpms even thought it did jump up to 4.8 last night. But i think it will be good. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. I'm also goign to try and get a boost controller before i head up there so we can turn it up to like 15#'s, but i'm not sure if i want to street tune with that amount of boost, prob just do 9 and then after i get some milage on the motor we'll head out to the dyno and max this 18G out before i set up to a better setup.

You can tow it on the NJ Parkway. Its when your car brakes down on the Parkway that you have to use one of the three tow companies.

Jesus, who let all the nancy pants in? Its not going to blow up just driving it normal for 50m on a base map. :1
You need to run MUCH richer than 13's for longer than 50m to even remotely impact the walls/rings.
"OMG take off a charge pipe! if it hit ANY boost un-toonerobied it will blow up" :1
Hitting 2 or 3 psi in normal driving WHILE in the 15's or 16's A/F isnt going to melt the fucker down either.

Hope it goes well.
And yes the :1, is dierected at any TurboD16 members, hahaha

my thoughts exactly, just drive the damn car there and take it easy.

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

Just drive it!

Dont leave anything off, unhooked or disconnected because then I am just going to have to connect it when you get here :P

Like I said...your motor will talk to you if it doenst like something. Do what most DONT do and listen to her when she speaks. O0

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

just drive it there, drive normally. no WOTers :)

the same retards saying you should tow it are the same asshats who have a AA 12 step 3000 mile breakin process LOL

Make sure to check for major oil leaks :P

hmtmom 02-04-2006 09:50 PM

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

Change your oil after you get there. It sounds dumb but running that rich can contaminate the oil with unburnt fuel and ruin your motor.

Re: pre-cautions to take while driving to tuning appointment?

why the hell would it run rich when he is not boosting.

a basemap for his motor should have all the vacuum cells normal

I haven't done anything sence i came home, i was so tired i just passed out and didn't wkae up until 7 :S. In the AM i'm goign to pull the oil pan off and seal it up and replace the gasket. I also need to get that LC-1 rewired and figured out.
