Post 4AGZE swap = BHG *Now with pics!

Finally manage to get this beast on the road. Had a couple coolant leaks, fixed 'em with adjustable hose clamps (I hate those crimp ones). Took her for a spin...gets hot pretty quickly and spews steam from the radiator end tanks. I'm thinking, "maybe the GZE just runs hotter than most cars/radiator is bad."

However, the motor doesn't idle for sh!t anymore. I unscrewed my oil cap only to see the infamous milk-like substance on the underside. After it cools down, I take off radiator cap and see mud colored water. Either it's rust or there's oil in the coolant. I fired the motor up w/out the radiator cap and it would burp that mud colored stuff...ugh.

On the bright side, it happily pushes 10psi. Vac. sits around 20ish, kind of wavers.

It seems to lack power, seems like I should easily break traction in 1st.

So, I'm thinking BHG based on what's happening (lack of power, overheating, etc.). When I pulled the head to replace the gasket, before I did the swap, a couple holes on the new HG didn't line up with the block. Guess that's what I get for letting the parts store getting a cheap gasket today vs. spending more and wait a day or so.

Do ya'll concur?

Haha, that's what I did yesterday. They didn't have any Z6 head gaskets and I would have had to order it, but they had the cheapy A6 gasket for half the price so I went for it. I just gave it an extra coating of copper spray. ;D

So, I pulled the head. And low and behold...what do we have?

Nasty water infested oil:

Numero Uno looks a little wet:

What a POS gasket:

This was the hole that wasn't aligned:

More POS-ness:

Can you spot the blowout?

That sucks. I never used to be a toyota fan, but 4ag's (heh fags) are hard to not love. Can't wait to see the results. Was the swap completely "plug and play"?

*edit* http://www.club4ag.com/ Check out the tech section, then the 4agze swap page. It has some good info that might help.

Long time 4AG/F/GZE fan here.

I hate to say it, but I think the BHG was my fault. One of the holes was blocked by the crappy gasket, probably making water pressure skyrocket and it took the path of least resistance.

The swap was plug and play for the most part. All 4A motors use the same mounts, so it dropped right in. Only thing I had to do was integrate the motor harness in with the chassis harnesss.

To think, I was running on 3 cylinders last night and I was still able to chirp 'em into 2nd. I imagine that extra cylinder will help things!
