Poor responce in first gear.

Ok shoot me if I didnt search hard enoughf.

But why is the car so slugish or stockish in first gear.
Disapointing cause I cant do decent burn outs.
FOr some reason the car only seems to make power after geting into second.

Why dosent the turbo work well in first.
Other than NOS any ideas to boost power in first.

Even while racing other cars. The biger NA cars allways seem to get a better start its only after we change to 2nd that we start rolling them in.

We have RPM, We have boost but no power in first why.

i dont know about you but my ---- "kicked" in first gear ;). tell us your setup maybe we can figure something out from there. maybe your turbo is too big for your setup and your not even spoolin it up in first. cant really say much if you dont tell us what your setup is

Re: Poor responce in first gear.

Setup is 1.3 Ltr 4 Cylinder 8 valver.
Carbed setup runing 10 PSI. SOme days 14 PSI.
Very carefull not to abuse the clutch too much. Just replaced it and its not fun or cheap.

Turbo is the tricky bit. IHI RFB5 VI34 with a 24 AR.
Wasnt spining up. So we got a VI22 Exhaust housing with a 12 AR (Basiclly half the size). And pluged it on.
Spins up at 1000 RPM. Producing 2 PSI by 2000 RPM and 10 PSI by 4000 RPM.
She revs to 7500 RPM if pushed.

10 psi at 4 grand huh sounds right its got carbs holy crap what car are you working on, i sugjest you take your trans and have it rebuilt if it has a bunch of miles on it have them beef it up to make it last a bit longer, if all fails try to find a similar model to your car with the same drivetrain and see if you cant swap out a more potent drivetrain. thats just me i could be wrong lol ;D

I live in a 3rd world country.
We dont have all the fancy cars you guys in the US have.
The car I have is similar to a suzuki swift 1.3 Ltr and is considered a large luxury car here. Considring that most of the other cars here are 800cc.

Ive learnt a lot since I made this post. Though Im still foxed about how well our little hybrid is working. Life cant be this good without a huge fing catch somewhere.

The reason why I felt we where not geting power in first case we where only launching at 1500 RPM or 2000 Max. Do something stupid like dump the clutch at 5K RPM and the power is there.

Turbo car in India? I'd drive straight up out of there.

Any city that has a language named after Canada is dangerous in my mind. (Kannada is an official language)

So how is it for getting parts over there, can't be much fun, all I ever see/hear is bad things about India, seriously how do 1.3 billion people live in one country?

chinoy 06-03-2005 09:41 AM

Re: Poor responce in first gear.

What car / setup do you own ?
How special is it.

Look at it this way.
In a country with 1.3 Billion People I have the fastest ------- Suzuki 1.3 Ltr how friging cool is that.

Im fluent in English, Hindi, Kanada, Punjabi.
Im very proud of my country.

Parts well depends on wether the car/bike was made in India or not.
If it is parts are cheap. Head gaskets 5$, Four new pistons and rings, with rebore 50$. Well thats what I do export Bike/performance parts to the US.

But god help you if the car / bike wasnt made here. Then you have to import them from the US. As if it isnt bad enoughf that we have to shell out 45 bucks for each $. But to top that off we have to pay 180-300% customs duty on imports.
So just may have to sell the kids if I want those new Sprak PLugs or a BOV LOL.

Ps: Ive turned down job offers in the US and UK where they where willing to pay me 100 times more than I make here. And Im happy. My Brother in law on the other hand took the offer and today earns over 200,000 USD per year. Dont know how happy he is. But theres no place like home. Worked in the UK for a few months. Hated it. Will never ever leave here again.

Re: Poor responce in first gear.

Youd think so wouldnt you.
That is untill you have it.
Trust me thers a lot more to life than the ammount of money you make.
From exp. If you have tons of money. You dont have the time or mental frame of mind to enjoy it.
I droped out of the rat race 6 years ago. No money now. But happy.
Ps: My arse is grass for going off topic.
Mods just delete this crap if you like.

Re: Poor responce in first gear.

since this thread went downhill... back when my crx was boosted, in first gear it was pretty slow. The problem was that the rpms shot up to redline way way too fast but yet the car wasent moving very fast. why ???
BTW the clutch was not slipping, and i was running .42/.48

Re: Poor responce in first gear.

Ive seen some posts saying its normal not to accept good accelration till your in 2nd or 3rd. They didnt say why though.
The feelong is very similar to what we exp. with two stroke chambers.
(Good for a 30 PSI stufing pulse on the ex.).
THe power dosent seem to come on as good in first as it does in other gears.
