Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
I'm building another ls/vtec project and was wanting to go with Wiseco since I've noticed better quality from them than others but just wanted to find out what you guy's like the MOST?

Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
CP/Wiesco are pretty much the way to go
|
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
Wiseco's are nice, but for some reason, i always go with JE... not SRP, but JE pistons.
SRP are the same as JE, but dont pass JE standards specs. I'm runnin JE 9.0:1 .02's |

I personally dont like CP because the piston/wall clearance is crraazzy loose, and they are loud.. I'd go with Wiesco
|
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
wiseco for me........btw how the hell do you pronounce that?
wise - co? or wi - say - co |
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?

|
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
waaaayyysscooo
|
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
we should make an encyclopedia on how to pronounce some of these manufacturer names im tired of hearing guys running around calling mugen-muggin and greddy- greedy :S not that it matters much
|
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
it's wise-co
|
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
ive put together 3 motors with CP's... all 3 were std bore and a quicky jeff frank hone job... all nice and quiet. The 2 loud motors I've built were using Arias and Srp's, straight up sounded like d16 diesals.
I'm a big fan of Endyn Pistons (rollerwaves) which are basically wiesco pistons. |
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
agreed srp pistons are loud, ive ran 2 sets.
anyone have any feedback on ross pistons?? |
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
what is so bad about srp's, for the budget build? anyone found any clearance problems with the srp's?
|

Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
what do you mean the engine is loud? I wanna get some srps, and some eagle rods, block filler and boost 20psi :y

I heard a lot of hype about the CP's, but I've also recently heard a slew of failing CP pistons. However from what I understand all, or most, major piston companies get their raw materials from the same place. Their differences lie in the manufacturing processes. |

sounds like a jetta TDI. click click click click click click also a good way to ware out an engine over time |
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
i pray i don't have piston slap its sounds horrible and like random said it kills the engine prematurely. i have the wisecos with cp gas nitride rings, pistons skits and tops coated.

Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
well i found on nopionline.com that they were selling them for like $370. also wouldnt you get the pistons and rods that you want first, then go to your machine shop and get it bored to that spec of the piston? it only makes sense to do that.
just go to nopionline.com and look under engine code b18b1. |
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
Wiseco's for me.
|
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
well how much are Wiseco's compared to the srp's? i wouldnt mine doing the upgrade if they were a little bit more expensive
|
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
I ordered mine from Summit for about $400-425 if I remember right.

Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
wtf, so do SRP's suck?
ive got a set that are just about to go in the boosted b now im worried :l there std bore p#149214 need more opinions, and fast |
Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
I'm going with Wiseco's on my car. I used to ride dirtbikes a lot and it always seemed to me that the wiseco pistons on the bike would last longer and the motor would just feel better after being rebuilt. i'd say all of their pistons have would have same quality.

Re: Piston Preference's....? Wiseco -vs- Other's?
there are other spec changes on the rollerwave piston besides smoothing. but i did the same to my wisecos i scotch brite the hell out of the sharp edges and then coated them they look hella sexy. i've had srp and wiseco side by side and its wiseco for teh win!
