That is not a radial engine, it is a rotary. In a radial engine, the pistons are stationary and the crankshaft moves. That is actually a rotary, the crankshaft is stationary, and the pistons, case and jugs all rotate.

i really wish someone would find a way to put a rotary ariplane motor (small small one) into a car. I mean there'd be some clearance issues to work out (like sticking 1/4 of the cylinders out of the hood probably), but wow those things produce some awesome torque. Imagine the sound/sight of that going down the road or rippin a burnout

Well, if you're talking like the old-school LeRhone rotary like in the picture, they suck...usually made about 90hp tops. I'm big into the old biplane/ww1 flight ----.

there are 2 types of radial engines. on e pictured above works like any typical piston engine where the cylinders firing causes the crank to turn. the other type mounts the crank to the engine mount and the whole engine spins instead of the crank. its a crazy thing and very rare. i have yet to see one, but they do exist.

there is no such engine with pistons called a rotary. as far as i know mazda and suzuki are the only companies to make rotaries. im sure there are more, but those are the only companies i know of

The rotary you are speaking of is only one possible kind, and that is the Wankel rotary engine.
