Yeah squab is a close relative of the common pigeon. I would see no problem eating them if you lived in a rural area, but consider the diet. They eat garbage all day. Garbage in garbage out.

Same thing with pigs. When I lived in Vegas I lived about 5 miles from a huge pig farm they feed these guys all the leftover stuff from the strip. It was the one on dirty jobs. I mean all they did was give the food some heat to kill of germs and well thats your 20 dollar pork loin.

If it was living more country based Im sure it would taste better I use to kill doves when I was a kid and we would eat them for the ---- ya effect the heart too. They tested like bird seed seeing we were killing them in my firends backyard that had like 3 bird feeders.

I couldnt see how it isnt safe look at how the rest of the world eats. Then again I have no idea what those birds carry if anything. Maybe Orange Pigeon?

The biggest risk is probably from psittacosis, but googling diseases from pigeons comes up with a few of them.

http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/foru...showtopic=2939

Just try to avoid inhaling dust or feathers when plucking the bird. And avoid coming into direct contact with their droppings. In the UK we eat pigeon as a delicacy, but try to avoid eating pigeons which have lived in the city, due to the filthy conditions they live in. Can't imagine detroit is much better than London for pollution etc. but I have shot and eaten pigeons which live in the country.

kickass!

Well, at least it's general purpose info. If I'm ever poor and hungry I'll go steal some chickens and know how to slaughter them.
