Pics of new zc im finishing up

I purchased this zc a few months ago to replace the single cam in my crx for the spring. The crx has been sitting for a few months without a motor because it donated its internals for the new dohc zc. The block is filled with devcon and its a d16a1 head. I know my timing belt cover looks like ----, if you have one to donate or sell to me post up;-)

block before going to maching shop.

That .60 trim should run well on your engine.

I'd upgrade the turbo at some point, though... never can have too much boost pls.

Looks great. You can buy plastic paint to do the timing belt cover with.Looks like it should be pretty bad ass when its done.

I am so happy that the DOHC crowd finally figured out which ARP kit to order.

that looks a little long, is it going to clear the front/ radiator/ core support? i don't know what kinda car its going in so im going to guess eg, cuz i could see that barely fitting in there.

What do you mean? I've been using ARPs in my ZC for a long time now!

Look Familiar. Basically the same setup as mine, but with some slight differences. What are your HP Goals?

What CAM Gears? I got JE. And the a1 head fits the ZC Block!! Sweet, those are a dime a dozen around me! I see a P&P coming up in my future when I get time!

Re: Pics of new zc im just finishing up

JD- I do plan on upgrading to a t3/t4 and a custom intake manifold somtime this summer, untill then the 63/60 will do.

Ravage70- the pistons are still looking good and mabey someday will still hit that 300hp mark.

Minor threat- Thezcr helped out with which ARP kit to order along with a lot of other usefull info.

Hotsex- You are so ------- funny :P

Bumblezc- HP goals are to double stock hp, 300 would be a bonus. Cam gears are aem's that came with the motor, not sure of what model there for but the exhaust gear marking is one tooth off. As for the a1 head, it does fit but needs a little shaved off for the left side motor mount to work. I picked the head up with a fresh deck, p&p, valve job and seals for less than I could have sent my zc head out to the shop. And those are the stock zc cams in the head of course.

Re: Pics of new zc im just finishing up

Only 300? What boost numbers are you gonna push? I got a 300-350whp goal at about 23psi of boost with mine.

75.5mm SRP 9.2:1 CR
Eagles
Filled block
Delta Cams WIth ZC JE Gears
Modded OBX Intake
Sidewinder Manifold (not built Yet)
ARP Head Stud (VW 1.8L)
OBD1 Conversion
3bar map
TullosTech EBC for 11-14psi and 17-22.5psi Settings
t3/t04b

Yada Yada.

Re: Pics of new zc im just finishing up

since everyone's disscussing there zc builds (and goals)

i just built my dohc, it's back to na. at the time (im breaking it in)

75mm srp pistons 8.0:1 cr (i know super low)
eagle rods
oem gaskets/seals
arp headstuds
delta cams w/ je cam gears (looks like we both go to zcr.com)
gay-m-s valves,springs,and retainers

turbo kit to go on after break in:

t3 turbo .42/.48 (i know it's a small turbo...lookin for a bigger one) (internal wg also :-[)
hf manifold
jrc 5"fmic
dsm blue top injectors
pr4 w/turbo edit (im going to buy a wideband, lookin at a plx-m300)
2.5" piping and exhaust (dp also)

i hope to break the 300whp mark......(but i know i have to go bigger on the turbo...and since my cr is real low im gonna boost the ---- out of it)

sweet setup , that turbo is acceptable for a start, but keep us updated when you change it to a matured one

Oh, I know there are ways of getting ARPs in the engine.

I'm saying I'm happy the DOHC guys have nailed down exactly which kit works, rather than hearing "Well the VW/B16 kit works but you have to modify studs sometimes." And my local shop can't order individual part numbers :(

the engine is built that well and yorue running a restrictive stock HF manifold? you can port the ---- out of it and make it flow pretty well though, but be sure to do that or else youre going to bottle neck the engine, well the small t3 is already doing a good job at that but i suppose its a good breakin turbo setup? dont push too much boost or it'll heat up and detonate and start melting your pistons

you wont find a zc in the junkyard, you will find a slew of d16a1's too bad you cant use em

everything looks good! i wish zc could use flat top pistons and still be over 9:1 compression, flame travel sucks with that huge of a dome.

Looks like I could have brought the turbo a bit closer to the motor when I made the manifold Aaron. Still looks awesome though! Can't wait to see your numbers!

yeah im workin on getting a better mani/ turbo (my plan was to build the manifold, but i did this build at my auto school and the deadline was coming fast, so i had to try the hf for the time being.)

3" downpipe material and dumpipe tubing came in today and flanges should be here anyday thanks to BMC. Sunday Ill have time to drop it in the crx along with some jimfab traction bars which dwarf my old bars :4

SRPs were fragile back in '97-00, JE since redesigned them to save their name.

Sorry, I just don't like scottsi, maybe you can understand.

zc's are jdm motors. you will never, ever find one in a junkyard here unless someone swapped on in a car that was wrecked ;)

Re: Pics of new zc im finishing up

Nah, he's asking why D16A1's won't fit in our cars. Mounting points are completely different. With a little bit of work, you can fit D16A1's in 1st gen CRX's, but that's it, period, without custom fabrication that really isn't worth it.

D16A1 came in 86-89 Integra.

I had one in my 86 CRX Si.

KL 03-20-2006 12:33 AM

Re: Pics of new zc im finishing up

86-87 Integras had brown valve cover D16A1's, which used a vacuum advance distributor and are commonly swapped into 1st gen CRX's. 88-89 Integra's had a black top valve cover D16A1 that used an electronic advance distributor, and are much harder to swap into first gen CRX's, but the mount points still don't work for any other honda, as I said, without custom fabrication that isn't worth it. The DOHC ZC has completely different mount points (that DO work in other cars that came with D-series engines) then the D16A1, but the DOHC ZC never came in the states.

Ah, yes, the three bolts holding down the distributor is so much harder.

Alternately, the five pinout changes and seven new wires you have to add to convert an 85-87 Si to OBD0 is *so hard*. That ---- takes, what, an hour? With most of that spent running the wires through the engine harness so they don't look like poopy?
