Picked up another z24 for a daily, pics

So i've had my eyes out for a cheap daily for a while now. Been driving my moms old car for a while trying to get this back on the road but there is just so much ---- I need to get for the red cav still... its a 97 5psd bone stock (with 190k!!!) Not crazy about the color of the car or tan interior but i'm not here to choose. Bluebook is 2100 with the mileage all all the options and i got it for 900 bucks. Drove it home unreg/uninsured from 4 hours away, got 500 miles to the tank and it runs perfect. I'll register it tomorrow.

calling these Quad 4's is like calling a civic a F1 car.

Personally, every 95+ cav ive been in has been a pile of poop. even low milage ones. They 'look' decent, but fall apart.

Personal Experiences w/ 95+ cav's...

1. 99 z24 owned by a friend. Motor kept spinning bearings (even after 100km), dealer warranty for 5 new motors. 5th motor was good until he got t-boned, wrote it off.

2. Electrical problems, headlight wires near washer fill always corode and fall apart.

3. other elec problems, misc things stop working, wipers, heater etc. in a friends car.

4. Brakes. Dont get me started on how easy these brakes take a dump. (warped fronts, seized backs).

5. weird clunks and thumps from front and rear suspension.

About the only thing good on these cars is the trans.

sorry.. if you havent guessed I hate cavaliers. I can atleast say what you do with them is admirable.

#1: I knew2 people with the same problem, not 5 motors but they spun bearings

#2: I had a friend who learned to pop hoods open on locked cars so he could clip the wiring off so he didn't have to go to the dealer for the connectors as the Junkyard were already scoured of them

#3 This too, same with Olds Aleros and Intreges

Re: Picked up another z24 for a daily, pics

They spin bearings because of the shitty ass oiling system. I spun one already on my first motor. Then I blew the ---- out of my second motor. Now i'm doing the 2.3 oiling system swap. The 2.4 oil galleries are so shitty with such sharp 90 degree turns that the oil struggles to return to the pan from the head. Yes, if you do beat these cars and run then a 1/2 quart low, they WILL spin eventually. As far as the other things, i've never had a problem with the suspension, brakes or electrical. And the tranyns from 95-99 arn't good at all. They ------- suck. The trannys from 00-01 are better, but still don't come close to being on par with honda trannys. I also blew up a tranny, but I got a built tranny now. Like hotrex always tells me...with all the money Im spending on this car, I could have a golden eagle sleeved 2 ltr block by now. haha oh well

i should clarify. The auto trannies are good.

I had 2 cavs (a 94 and a 93) and both auto, the 94 had 270k and it was smooth as butter w/ NO fluid changes ;D

the 93 had a trq lockup solenoid problem, unplug it, problem solved :-X

pre-95 were NOTORIOUS for leaking @ the firewall into the foot wells causing elec shorts and lots of rust. (both mine did it, mom's 91 4dr did it too, under warranty, so repaired for free!).

Yup thats what i heard too, all the oil gets pulled to the head if you leave it in like 2nd at high rpm to pass some1.

Thats the cleanest $900 (running) car I've seen in a long time, I think even I would consider that. (Keep in mind I currently own 3 Escorts, 2 of em boosted).

Hmm my friend had one of those model cavaliers and it was always having dumb problems. We had one of the older v6 z24s and it has over 250k miles of abuse and runs.
