So now the messege is "ok kids, go out...do great at swimming...if you happen to win, come back and hit the bong. its the American thing to do?"
First you should explain why smoking weed makes someone a bad person, the reason I say this is because what if he was caught drinking a beer? you were the one posting how to brew homemade beer right? If so then in 1920 YOU would be considered a criminal, and its pretty easy to make a case as to why alcohol consumption is worse than pot, bla bla bla.

The other issue is that Mr. Phelps is no longer at the Olympics, its over, therefore his behavior and anything that he does now has no sort of value because he is no longer representing the USA, maybe if he was caught drugging and raping a 12 year old in between events I could see how that would tarnish the image of the USA.
Also the fact that he is a role model has nothing to do with his personal life, he is a role model because he is an olympic medalist, not because he is an outstanding individual, if kids that look up to him are to be devastated that their "hero" is a recreational drug user, then maybe their parents should re-examine their value system.

Micheal Vick was running a ------- dog fighting ring, where taking a hit of a bong is a "victimless crime", what he did was murder dozen of innocent animals and help further undermine the already terrible reputation of the American Staffordshire Terrier, and personally I think he should face a firing squad. Anyway the two cases are only similar in the fact that both people are involved in athletics, dog fighting is animal cruelty, smoking pot isn't.

Drinking beer, brewing your own beer...its all 100% legal.
Taking a hit from a ------- bong is illegal.

your comparing apples to oranges here.

Considering half of Americans have smoked pot at least once in their life, I think most people are willing to look beyond the legality of the act.

We're not really. The only reason drinking is legal is because of the crime it created when it wasn't. If the mafia had never started, drinking would probably still be illegal.

the funny thing is Obama admitted to smoking weed a few times when he was younger and we voted him president, and that nig cant even swim. i think if this guy can ---- up his lungs with taken some bong rips and still win 8 gold medals then the other athletes in the olympics really need to look at themselves and try and figure out how they got beat by a smoker lol.

eh, ---- you. nothing wrong with smoking weed. Its being decriminalized and its becopme fairly open. Its not illegal to smoke pot in all countries, you can legally have it in parts of the U.S. the only person that really takes a hit from the law when it comes to pot, isnt the kid with an 1/8th of weed or some middle aged man with a jay, its the ------ spics and nogs selling it by the pound and killing over it.
As far as Phelps hitting a bong, whoopty ------- doo. It isnt going to make him better/worse at what he does, unless he does it alot and his lungs may hate him. Making a big deal over nothing.

After being busted and jailed for marijuana possession and resisting arrest in Nairobi, Kenya on Jan. 31, charges were quickly dropped against Barack Obama's half-brother George. "They took me from my home," he said. "I don't know why."

Police say Obama was rounded up with others who had marijuana. "Being found with people who are in possession of cannabis is a petty offense," an official stated.

Possession of any quantity of marijuana in Kenya can carry a life sentence, and those accused are denied bail.

probly wont hear another word about this one, or they will minimize the situation to look like he barely had any on him, oh and this nig didnt win 8 gold medals either

Life sentence for pot?

There are a few countries like that. Disgusts me.

I admit I probably wouldn't smoke it and risk a sentence like that.
