I was told on HT just now to hold the DEL key on startup and somehow switch the bios to start from cd first

anyone have ideas on this? opinions?

I really want my files but dont care that much, there pictures of old girlfriends that I have in other places anyways

If you want to save the files put the hd in an other comp and copy them. but yeah try hitting del on start up and what they said, then you have to put the windows disk in.

and any hmt member worth his weight in nut hair posts pics of their chicks. especially their exes because tey can't get mad, let alone find out

when you first turn it on, press del to go into the bios. search for boot sequence, and put CD ROM at the top of the list.

make sure the cd is in the drive, if its a legit xp disk it'll boot of the disk into Windows setup.

format the disk in windows setup, and make a NTFS partition, and install windows again.

^^^ easiest thing to do by far, but sounds like a hardware issue so if your HD died you're screwed. When you hook the HD up to the other PC you can easily transfer files from one PC to another. It'll pick up the other HD as another drive.

Or when the blue screen comes up you can look up the error code on MS's website. Possibly it could be something as easy as reinstalling drivers. You never know. If you don't have the option to pull the HD and put it in another PC try to get a hold of ERD Commander or Mini PE, by far the best tools cd's you can get. WIth those you can boot to the cd and run its OS from the CD and RAM.

If you have no idea what i'm talking about you're fucked and you'll need a reformat and possibly some new hardware.

yep, but dont even reformat it. just install over the current version. and if that doesnt work. then reformat it. but if you dont reformat it and install over hte current version then you will save all of your files.

go on dell.com or w/e computer comapny you like
buy a new one
